Now 5 weeks since ablation and just had a really good couple of weeks in NSR with lovely steady heartbeat and rate in low sixties.
Last couple of days a few brief AF moments and blood pressure has increased alot over last week or so. Last reading 158/96. Only changes stopped amiodarone as advised by consultant and reduced furosemide to every other day.
Next consultant appointment 6/1/22. So anxious. Sorry to moan any advice please? x

As you will see from the attached factsheet, it’s quite normal for the heart rate to increase after an ablation but not blood pressure. I suggest you contact the hospital and either leave a message or email your EP’s secretary as those levels are high. It may be caused by a form of white coat syndrome even though you are taking it at home but nonetheless less, getting anxious, causing it to be elevated. Maybe there is an Arrhythmia Nurse attached to the hospital that you could contact.
Thankyou Flapjack for the reply and advice. Think I will contact the cardiac nurse tomorrow to discuss. I'm certainly anxious and its not helping at all!
Firstly, I thought this site was built for moaning ( atleast where I’m concerned anyway) so wouldn’t apologise there 🤣
Secondly can’t really comment on high blood pressure, all I can say is mine dropped quite drastically during and after ablation. So I’m the total opposite. Last reading they took it was floating around 105ish so wasn’t too bad but I’ve got to remember to get this checked over the coming days as they seemed a little concerned about it and kept me in over night to make sure. Didn’t mention it until I asked about it when they wanted to kick me out though but like I say my last reading was pretty hang average so hoping it stays that way 👍
Personally if/when I’m told to stop bisop after ablation I am definitely going to expect some sort of reaction from my body/heart asking what the hell im playing at in no uncertain terms so hopefully that’s all your body is doing. 100% get it checked out though like the oracle flapjack suggested 😂
How long is it since your ablation and how are you feeling?
I'm on 10mg bisoprolol and agree you need to be wary of reducing/stopping even though I think it contributes to fatigue.
I was cut from 10mg to 5 straight after ablation and went back to AFIB after 5 days so it was upped again. Yes suppose it makes sense that your body says what the hells going on when it's denied the meds it's used to.
The trick must be to relax and and not notice every little blip but would love to know the secret to that!
No i totally get that and I’m certainly noticing every little thing right now. Just trying to tell myself I’ve been through quite the ordeal and clearly so has my body so got to give it time to try and find a new status quo.
My ablation was on Monday just gone so I’m still feeling the after effects. Don’t feel terrible by any stretch just very uncomfortable and not able to sleep very well. Aches and pains all over but all to be expected. Just trying to take this first week very slow and let my body settle itself back to a new normal. Once I feel this has happened and have more confidence in what I can and can’t do I’ll start trying to get up and about and go for a few walks to test things out.
In regards to bisop and it causing fatigue, 1000% it does no doubt what so ever about that one. Unfortunately I think this is a side effect from all af meds and is the main reason why I wanted the ablation as i didn’t actually feel I was coping too bad on the bisop in the end. I just do not want to spend a lifetime on drugs unless I absolutely have too and I want the energy to actually be able to play with my kids for more than half hour/ hour at a time without getting tired and or grumpy.
In regards to dosage and weening off, I only take 2.5mg and that makes me pretty damn fatigued so I can’t imagine what 10 my would do 😬 I noticed the difference when I weened myself down to almost half a 2.5mg tab in regards to fatigue so I can’t imagine what quadrupling the dose would do 😬😬😬 not something I want to find out in a hurry either. When I feel my body’s settled and I feel confident about it, speak to docs about also, I will try to slowly ween myself off over a few weeks months and see how my heart reacts each time I take a little away. No way im jumping into getting rid of it entirely even if they tell me I should as Im pretty sure this would end in disaster. Ween off slowly and hopefully over a few weeks your bodies used to the new normal and you can say bye to meds 😀👍 that’s the plan anyway 🤞🤞🙏🙏
It's very early days for you. Doctors seem to underestimate the recovery time from ablation. I think it's a major trauma to the body and aches and pains and tiredness etc are to be expected.
I started gentle walking after a couple of weeks but only for 10 mins or so whereas the hospital information sheet said brisk walks should be the norm after 1 week!
I have repeatedly asked to reduce bisoprolol dose but told no possibly as I also have heart failure. Doctors always say it isn't a cause of fatigue.
Hope you continue to improve a bit each day and wean off the meds gradually
Hello.. I had an ablation done just over two weeks ago, and my bp kept fluctuating very wildly. It got to 195 over 95 few a few seconds and drop back to 145 over 80. This went on for about a few days. pulse great and no afib. I'am pleased to say bp is now 120 over 70 and stable. Wish someone could tell us why this happened.
Hi honey1958 I have a follow up appointment in october. I'am feeling really good and even noticed my bp is a bit lower than it was pre ablation. Unfortunately I had to endure the high bp and breathlessness post ablation for a few days. I'am you will be fine just give it a little while longer. PS I didn't read anything or was told anything re shortness of breath or bp rise.
Hi honey1958. I live in Auckland nz and must admit I was well looked after at Waitakere hospital first with my breathing problem and then with my high bp. I was in hospital for 4 days in all had ct scans and ultra sound of my heart. Nothing unusual was found. Suspect we are all different in our response to ablation. I will ask my cardio doctor about the surge in bp and let you know if he has any thoughts.
