Magnesium and Warfarin

Just a quick post. With magnesium being championed as the mineral of choice for us afibers, I was shocked to see that magnesium contraindicates with warfarin and can increase the risk of bleeding? Interestingly I’ve noticed my INR has fallen not risen since taking magnesium? Then again I take taurine and arginine which also probably messes with the warfarin? Can anyone add their two penneth on this?

Taking magnesium glycinate alongside my warfarin has had no effect at all. Where did you see the information that your talking about?

If you “Google” Warfarin and Magnesium interactions there’s lots of information saying how the Warfarin binds with the Magnesium?

Everything I’ve read says that mineral supplements such as Magnesium may (not will) bind with Wafarin making absorption more difficult. That could mean an increased risk of bruising and bleeding so something you may need to watch.

I use webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingre... to check interactions and nothing about Warfarin there - but plenty about other heart meds.

I can’t take oral Magnesium so use a Magnesium Oil Spray on skin instead - maybe that’s something you could look at as an alternative if you don’t want to take oral Mag?

been taking both forever with zero issues. INR very stable at 2.5. Google can damage your health.

Long story short: My routine blood test showed Mg had slipped to bottom limit. GP advised to take almost any nuts or seeds (about ¾ egg cup daily) for a month. Retested after that time and Mg was middle of the range. As for my INR (re: warfarin) there was no change, still in normal range.

Hi IzzleI agree about the nuts, especially almonds, which I have on my porridge every morning and take magnesium every evening.

I would try taking CoQ10 with the Mg. It seemed logical to me when a Naturopath explained to me an Mg compound relaxes the heart and the CoQ10 strengthens it thus keeping the beat steady.

I used to take Q10 but stopped it as I found it messed up my INR with taking Warfarin at the same time. I also tried potassium tablets but that seemed to make it worse?
