I had to stop taking EIiquis due to severe joint pain. Today my cardiologist prescribed low dose Xarelto to be taken once daily?Has anyone on the board suffered similiar side-effects from Eliquis?

Just remember to take it with a substantial meal which contains some fat to ensure it’s absorbed well. Friend of mine had a problem when taking on an empty stomach, not muscle pains but her liver enzymes raised because it wasn’t absorbed which meant it wasn’t as efficacious as it should and her liver had to work harder. As soon as she switched to taking with evening meal everything was ok.

I’ve been on Apixaban (Eliquis) for 5 years now with no problems. I assume you are in US - FYI in UK we tend to use the generic name of drugs rather than the trade name.

Hi. After reading your post I will have breakfast first before taking eliquis apixiban and bisoprolol as I am trying to get my liver enzyme readings lowered. Didn't know that if having it on an empty stomach could be counter productive regarding liver enzymes. Glad came across your post.😀

Unfortunately it’s another one of those things your doctor’s don’t warn you against. I only found out by accident when attending a AF support group talk and that was from the Arrythmia Nurse.

Yes, I had to stop taking it due to joint and muscle pain. I used to wake up in the night in pain, particularly located deep in my quadriceps (front thigh muscles). my EP switched me to Edoxaban and I haven't had any problems since. I hope things improve for you.

Yes, I had to stop taking apixaban because of joint pain. After a couple of months I had constant pain from bursitis in both shoulders. It was awful at night. Xarelto did the same thing after a few days. Enoxaparin did the same thing to my hips and legs. Apixaban and Xarelto also caused apathy, which was pretty unpleasant for my family.I was on anticoagulants for a year aftertwo DVTs and two PEs. Both were caused by multiple provocations, so after the year of treatment I stopped taking them. It took months to get better.

I have only used those three anticoagulants. There are a couple of others you can try if necessary. Good luck!

Yes. I had to stop eliquis due to joint pain and because I could no longer take any anti-inflammatories for my arthritis. I could barely walk. Now I take Vitamin K2 and Nattokinase which are natural blood thinners.

Hello betsea, I am experiencing same issues. How did you ween off eliquis. I was also told by a friend could take Nattokinase instead of Eliquis. Most doctors say you can not stop it. I am concerned and need to make a decision.

I didn't wean myself off Eliquis. I just stopped just as you would before surgery. I take Nattokinase and NAC for blood clots and Vit E for thinning. My Dr said even tho he couldn't advise me to go off it. He had to admit I was probably low risk. I am on Flecanide and have not had an Afib attack since being in it, about 5yrs. I told my Dr quality of life was a deciding factor for me. I was in a lot of pain and walking completely bent over so I had no quality of life while I was on it.
