Well you could ask your GP whether you might have polymyalgia rheumatica. If you think it could be I would get an appointment sooner rather than later. The condition responds very well to Prednisolone.

I am not a health care professional.

I have AF since heart surgery 18 months ago but 6 years ago was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica and experienced the symptoms you describe. Best ask your doctor about it since it can be treated and there's no need to suffer such joint pain.

I’m sorry to hear… as if AF isn’t enough!

Yes, in my case Eliquis significantly increased my joint pain. I switched back to Xarelto and went back to my « normal » arthritis pain! Hope you find a solution too !

Yes I get worsened joint pain on Apixaban. I have tinkered around with the dose and it is definitely the Apixaban. I think it amplifies pain in general .

Yes, I found that the arthritis pain became much worse when I took Apixaban. It took about three weeks after stopping it to go back to my usual pain level. Also, I had high uric acid which I link to Apixaban. GP none committal! Only taking aspirin now. Interested to read that Iris found no increase in pain with Xarelto. I will ring my surgery and ask if I can try it.

If you try Xarelto, let me know how you do on it! Thank you

I have polymyalgia rheumatica. I'm also on edoxaban, atorvastatin, bisoprolol, amlodipine. Your symptoms sound like PMR to me. Ask your GP for a blood test for ESR and CRP. If they are raised, that's pretty much it. You can take prednisolone long term to get rid of the symptoms though there's no cure. It goes into remission in 2 to 5 years.

It's important to see your GP ASAP as if untreated it can go on to Giant Cell Arteritis, which is a medical emergency. This happened to me as I got ill during covid and could only get telephone appointments. The PMR was misdiagnosed for 6 months.

There's a Health Unlocked forum where you can get further advice on PMR.

Thank you for posting and all those who have replied.

My cardiologist has just put me on Edoxaban 60mgs and almost immediately I developed stiff hip joints. Any one else?

I am like that because of my statin. I actually asked my cardiologist a few weeks ago if there is anything else that doesn’t cause the body pain and he told me they all are pretty much alike. Even though I have my PM now I can still have a heart attack I can still have blockages, which means you still need, a statin. I have arm and leg pain right now to the tips of my fingers, but I also have arthritis and spinal stenosis. What my EP tells me is not everything is heart related. I think when you have a heart disease we get wrapped up in it and we blame everything on it. I know I did. It can be digestive and for me the doctors are in agreement. It is my anxiety and stress.

I have a very unique pacemaker and because of that there are unique tools that come with it my my EP and the tech assigned to me check me quarterly now it used to be a monthly. I am also monitored 24 seven by the company and clinic through my phone app made for my pacemaker. They can take a reading at any time without even telling me, I can also request one if I’m feeling that bad not everything shows but they have a pretty good idea if there are issues

What I need to tell you is that they just showed me a report on my pacemaker etc. running from June 2023 until the day I was sitting with my doctor being shown the chart it was read that morning just before printing it. It showed everything from my pacemaker, including numbers, highs and lows. I wish you could see the smile on my doctor. It was that good. He also reminded me your numbers will go up when you’re active just like they go up on anyone with or without heart issues. if it doesn’t go back, there is a problem Before I learned to get out of my head. I would panic if it hit 90 because I was set at 60. When I wake, it’s around 62 it may hit 90 if I am doing stuff around the house. My Cardiologist wants me to get my average below 85 which it runs right now he considers that high for me because it’s only driving etc.. The thing is I get extremely anxious driving.

One of the first things my doctor had me do was stop reading my oximeter all the time and did not want me to get any type of reader except blood pressure. That does not. mean once an hour. Again if you get it into your head, you will make yourself crazy. If I start going that way, he gets annoyed with me now and lets me know it because I have been taught better by him.

Remember all the other parts of your body yes, even a pain in your chest or in your back can be other things from Gastro to a muscle. I see my neurosurgeon the middle of next month for possible back surgery I believe my back is causing balance and other issues I was supposed to get it done two years ago when I moved to Texas, but my heart got in the way and it’s taken this long to get cardiac clearance if they do need to do surgery and what kind. I wonder how many pains may disappear if this gets taken care of.

try to keep an open mind and don’t panic easier said than done. I’m still a nervous but with an incredible doctor/EP. He is also actually a teacher of it and because of that he has taught me the same way without all the intricate parts. As you begin to understand your body and what’s going on in there, you begin to not be so afraid. I’m not saying I’m never worried but especially this past year since the p.m. oh what a different life compared to when first diagnosed

lots of people get muscle ache and pain with various medications like Apixaban ( anti coagulant) and Statins for cholesterol etc.

I read many years ago about taking Q10 to counter this side affect so tried it and no more muscle pain within 2 days of using or since, so for me this worked!
