Hi all. Going in for my 1st ablation this Tuesday. I’d the last meal to be had Monday evening? What about a cup of tea Tuesday morning?

Your hospital should have given clear instructions but if not, the general rule is no food after midnight and clear liquid (water) only from then till 6 am. After that nil by mouth. I always had dinner as usual and a light supper around 10.30.
I have found this works for morning procedures but if you are scheduled for PM you may have different insructions.
Cheers Bob. It says to be at hospital 8am. Will they do the ablation immediately?
Depends on the list and the priorities. Not something we could predict.
I would suggest you take something with you to distract yourself with - I can get ‘lost’ in Audio books, Suduko & people watching but I can say the waiting was the worst part so deep breaths and be prepared for a wait & be delighted if you go straight in!
Best of luck.
Sorry who knows? My last one I had to be there by 7.30 and walked into cath lab around 10 from memory. Stayed in Travel Lodge the night before. In the good old days you went into hospital the previous day and had all your pre procedure tests and Q and A then but these days this seems to be done either remotely or by yet another hospital visit (pre covid) a week or two before hand. I was instructed to shower with hibiscrub (that was supplied) that morning (had to do it twice) but not to shave the area which they did as required. Don't think the appreciated my Brazillian the previous time. lol 😁
There is a "preparing for" fact sheet as well as a "recovering from" one which you may find helpful
Thank you. Silly question but during the procedure do you keep your under pants on ?
I stayed in hospital accommodation overnight and had to sign in at 7.30 with rules as Bob described. Unfortunately I had a restless night then went into a deep sleep and slept past the 6am cut off point as I hadn’t set alarm for 5.45. As there was an emergency my procedure didn’t take place until much much later than scheduled, late afternoon in fact, and I was so dehydrated my brain wouldn’t work properly - useful as I now understand the effects of dehydration first hand! I’m sure you get the message there ☺️
Cheers. Yes I’m gonna get to hospital Tuesday morning about 7ish. I’m really nervous. Gonna have a glass or 2 of red tonight to help me relax and get a nice nights sleep. Then drink lots of water and ear healthy tomorrow
I had my Cryo ablation last Tuesday at Barts. I was nervous but when I got to the ward I felt more relaxed . I surprised myself. I came out of the hospital in the afternoon feeling absolutely fine . I did not have GA . I decided not to have alcohol the night before .
Glad to hear. No I wouldn’t have a beer the night before. But I’m having a couple of glasses of red tonight. And my ablation is Tuesday
Two days before me ! Which hospital Lenlec ? If you don't mind me asking .
Bmi Meriden Coventry
Had mine there in April. Who is your scheduled EP? I say scheduled as mine changed twice in the week prior and a 3rd time on the day itself 🙄.
The hospital just called to check everything is ok for tomorrow. I’m first down at 9 she said. Usually on a Tuesday it’s dr shamil Yusuf but could change.
Aww, he's been my EP for the past 3.5 years. He's a very dedicated chap who explains everything to you and is well respected. I'm guessing he's not who you see for your appointments? He was originally scheduled to do mine but then it was changed to Dr Dhanjal and then, on the day, I got Dr Pannikar, who I had never met before. Dr Yusuf kindly phoned me a couple of days after to see how I was and apologised for being too busy to pop in and see me before I was sent home. Wishing you all the best and don't forget to let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it. Definitely take a sports capped bottle of water/juice for afterwards....... that was a fantastic tip from the fact sheets.
No never met him before. I’ve dealt with dr panniker. Is he good ?
As I said, he's been my EP for the past 3.5 years and I have found him to be a very knowledgeable and caring chap, willing to go the extra mile for his patients. If I've had issues, I ring his secretary and he will sort it out or respond, usually within 24 hours. He is very well respected in this field but I have no figures relating to his or anyone elses procedures. All the EPs in Coventry are considered experts in this field so we are lucky to have such an esteemed team. 😊.
Best of luck . As I said I was nervous and it was fine . Glad I did it .
Hope all goes well for you Lenlec and you are soon fighting fit. Will wait to hear how it all went.
