Pay attention to your nurse. Clear liquids only from 6 am is also normal

I had my ablation a few weeks ago. No food after midnight, just water.Hope yours is as successful as mine has been. Early days but I feel so hopeful and thankful.

I Had mine 2 weeks ago, and no food after midnight and a sip to drink by 6. I had a general anaesthetic . Not worth any complications by eating.

Mine said light breakfast up until 7 am, water until 10 am, to be admitted at 11 am last month.

go with what the pre op assessment nurse said

I was told to stop eating the night before my ablation

Sips of water to take regular medication in the morning and not to take my anticoagulant in the morning

Hope all goes well

These were my orders as well for a procedure scheduled for early afternoon.

Oops, I must nt have read the end. My only regular morning medication is the apixaban and I was to take that with a small sip of water, not skip it.

I wasn't allowed anything after midnight although my procedure was in the afternoon. Had to lay flat for 4 hours after the procedure which took us to 10pm. Kept in overnight but told I would have to leave by 8 as they required the bed. By then, it was 36 hours since I last ate so I refused to leave until I had breakfast. Thankfully procedure was successful.

My EP said 4 hours before although they all differ in the time between fasting and ablation. Some are concerned about aspiration which is inhaling food. I would go with your nurse to avoid delays.

Hi

Rethinking on food before procedures is being brought uptodate.

Even water for hydration is important to listen to.

You might get the procedurer's thoughts. So abide by nurse who takes her directions from her senior.

I was angry that instructions for my DOG's SPAY was no food or drink after midnight. My DOG eats dry kibble.

I took her home at 4pm and the report was that she was dehydrated before the spay.

Then I found that she was not done until after 1pm!

The following day she was sick severak times.

I took her back the following morning and we had to wait.

The owner set up a saline drip. Rushed through 1/2 saline bag. Would I like to leave her overnight. No I said.

I forced spoonfuls of water throughout the afternoon. Given meds and paid again (making the spay twice the cost).

I should complain. Not good enough.

Above is showing you the importance of water for hydration.

Not necessarily food.

Can't understand why no food after the procedure after waking up properly.

We are given sandwiches to eat.

But after my thyroidectomy I was so hungry (nothing from midnight. I had 2 saline drip bags before and given a blue dye 1 hour before operation.. No meal for me as I was admitted to a different ward first. I said that I was starving so the nuse gave me 2 boxes of the milky food. I was so glad when breakfast was given.

i’ve always been told nothing after midnight. I would listen to your nurse. She does it for a living. It’s not worth taking a chance. By the time you wake up and go to the hospital, they will keep you busy and then you’ll be sleeping you don’t need to eat
