I had a successful ablation for ventricular tachycardia in October 2019. I'm still on 1.25Bisoprolol and Magnesium. Started having disturbing symptoms in February 2021, including tiredness, tingling arms and legs, feeling like batteries suddenly run out if walking, low heart rate. Had a 2 day Holter monitor arranged by the cardiac nurses which didn't show anything alarming. They said to stay on Bisoprolol as a 'baby' dose. Gp arranged blood tests which showed I was low on Folic Acid. This has been addressed, but still feeling unwell. GP is unwilling to alter any medication and I can't see him anyway. I feel it is the Bisoprolol and not a recurrence of VT. As my next follow up consultation is a phone appointment in January 2022, yesterday I made Private appointment to see the EP who performed my Ablation just for a consultation. Should I have gone through my GP? I'm now concerned that I have done things wrong and jumped the gun! Should I cancel and speak to my GP again?
Protocol used to be that you needed a GP referral to see a specialist but if you have been a patient previously, unless they have signed you off, it’s ok - I’ve informed my GP retrospectively in the past & they were fine about it.
I need a consultation from a consultant for another condition and spoke to my GP this morning who said they shouldn’t have signed me off & said they would write asking for me to be seen urgently.
Personally, I think you have done the right thing. You haven’t been signed off by the consultant and GP’s are not seeing patients face to face at the moment. Cut out the middle man and you will get some answers faster.
Hello I’m sure you have done the best thing for you.my reply concerns the tingling and weakness you have been experiencing . It might be worth having your b12 levels checked out as you can get all kinds of weird feelings when b12 is low and it’s easily treated if it proved to be the case.good luck mary
Not garbled at all. Why not speak to GP and then go to EP if not happy. In my experience the GP won't ever overrule what the cardiologists prescribe, but they will contact them for advice. Also have you spoken to the arrythmia nurses? Mine are amazing and can go to your EP if necessary to get things altered. Quicker than GP too.
(Now who is writing a garbled post!)
Thank you to all who have been very kind and taken the time to reply. With regard to B12, I have researched this myself and agree the symptoms are very similar and can be affected by folic acid depletion. My GP however says that my levels aren't low. I have made the decision to see my EP next Tuesday and will report on how I get on.Kind regards to everyone
