I’ve been prescribed Propafenone alongside my Carvedilol. I have PAF and ventricular ectopics.
I tried flecanide and had a bad reaction so that was stopped . I’m concerned that Propafenone also has very bad side effects .

Don't preempt things that may not happen. I use it a lot and only slight irritation is a slight metalic taste from time to time.
I took it 20 months for persistent afib, did great until they put me on maximum dose. Since I had bradycardia as well that did not work out well. I now take flecainide. What side effects did flecainid have for you?
Propafenone helped me and Flecanide did not even though EP said they are in the same class of drug.
After a cardioversion and I was in rythm, I was given Propafenone to help maintain rythm. It worked very well for that purpose. However, after about a year and a half on the drug, my skin started turning brownish/blackish which was not related to bruising. None of my doctors could explain the reaction but I know it is listed as a very rare reaction. So I stopped taking the drug (and, of course, went back into afib) and I saw a dermatologist. I was told that whatever I had was "the tail end of it" and it was on its way out. May take up to 2 years. It is now 3 years since I discontinued Propafenone and my skin is beginning to return normal. Don't know if anyone else has had this reaction-- but besides the skin issue, I tolerated the drug well and didn't notice any bad side effects. (I also stopped taking flecanide after I stopped the Propafenone but I didn't like it. This may be a good drug for you just be aware of this side effect (which is rare).
I’ve been on Propafenone (Arythmol) for five years now and it seems to suit me really well. I take it 3 times daily…..but I can soon tell if I’ve missed one! It’s the only anti-arrhythmic I’ve ever been on so I can’t make any comparisons.
It depends what you mean by ‘bad side effects’. I took a low dose of Propafenone for many years. It upset my digestive system a bit but it was better than AF!
When I started taking propafenone I felt tired and out of breath a little. It went away in couple of weeks. I felt super fine meanwhile, no arrythmias and no side effects at all. After several months taking 3x150mg daily, I suddenly started feeling dizzy. Now it has been a week since side effects and I constantly feel like passing out and have problems with coordination, because of this severe dizziness. My doctor took me off today and prescribed me flecainide. We will see how it goes.As much as Ive read, all these drugs work differently on different people.
2 ablations and 29 years old by the way.
