Dilitiazem and Heartburn

Hi,

I was taking lowest dosage last 1.5 years of this CCB and no problem at 120mg. Have been taking 180 mg for a couple months and now have heartburn which I suspect started after gastritis flare up. Dilitiazem is supposed to be the least likely of the calcium channel blockers to relaxt the LES and cause heartburn but wondered if anyone else noted a correlation?

Thanks for the input.

It definitely relaxes the LES! I had no idea what was happening when I first started it - thought I was having heart attacks and then hiatus hernia. I'm in 200mg slow release and the brand name is Tildiem. I found that by changing my diet it settled down a lot and I hardly ever have reflux issues now. If I do I use Gaviscon but if you're in the US it's not so effective.

I take 180 and was worried when the doctor swapped my usual reflux med for a ppi which I didn’t want to take. I was delighted to discover I didn’t need the heartburn med anyway, unless I eat a commercially made pudding with fruit filling, in which case I take Gaviscon. I am careful about bending over after drinking, don’t drink strong tea or coffee and avoid any other foods that noticeably cause a problem. Heinz tomato sauce fine, any other 😱

When my dose of Adizem was increased to 200mg it caused awful acid reflux. My gp confirmed it was a common side effect. He prescribed Lansoprazone to help and said I could still take gaviscon if it was bad. Blood thinners Edoxaban also causes acid reflux so double wammy for me.

Okay thanks everyone for the replies ...I appreciate it. I imagine Dilitiazem is not prescribed over there as a calcium channel blocker. It is SUPPOSED to be the least likely CCB to cause LES problems but we know how that goes...right. I'm going to go back to 120mg the lowest extended release dosage and see what that does..
