Hopefully not too off topic, but a question for mostly the older men out there. I have noticed since taking Dilitiazem that my BPH (benign prostate hyperplasia) symptons have improved. Dilitiazem is not listed as a diuretic but might have a diuretic effect or maybe something else in the formulation is helping? It could also be coincidence or perhaps a result of increased urination from my SVT and Afib episodes. Anyway, wanted to see if anyone else noticed this.

I don't know mjames, but one of our esteemed volunteers who is a bit of an expert on matters prostate always maintains that AF does increase urination but I guess it's quite difficult to work out what does what....I take Diltiazem, but I'm not sure it has changed my habits!
Yes, afib and other arrhythmias can independently increase urination partly to to a change in the antidiuretic hormone(ADH), and partly due to matters unknown, so that's a variable. I'm actually going to do a trial off of Dilitiazem for the next few days so I'll see if there is much of a difference.
I did not notice when I was given it but I have now got a marker that I am allergic to Dilitiazem. It made me very ill and a few months in Ambulatory care. But I do seem to pop to the loo more when I am in AF?
Thanks goldie. I've seen more citations where it's been more unhelpful than helpful, but for me it seems to work just fine. Today I went off Dilitiazem so I will miss the bph benefits but not having to take the drug.
I am not a bloke lol I take Diltiazem and was given it with caution because it can cause fluid retention and I have HF as well as AF. So I doubt whether it will increase urine output. Fortunately for me it did not cause any fluid retention. If I remember correctly Bobd (esteemed volunteer) cannot take it because it does cause fluid retention for him.
Hi Cassie, I was thinking more about relaxing the muscles associated with the prostate, that's why I was calling out "blokes" I stopped Dilitiazem yesterday and have already noticed a difference, but I also have increase my fluid intake so not a scientific experiment.
