bisoporol and heartburn.

since my dosage of bisoporol was increased to 7.5mg am 2.5mg pm I have the worst heartburn I’ve ever known.

fortunately for me, I still have quite a few omeprazol left over from taking naproxen (which I’m told I can’t have anymore )

Does anyone else get heartburn from bisoporol? When I look at ‘side effects’ listed, it’s not on there. I’m worried the doctor won’t prescribe it to me.

Try taking your high dose of bisoprolol mid breakfast. Chewing almonds, really well before your heartburn gets bad can halt it in it's tracks.

Also avoid fat and vinegar where you can.

Not a fan of almonds. Would rather just take a tablet. Just hoping the doc will prescribe it.

Naaaah not me ............. Bisoprolol was too busy making me feel like The Zombie from the Village of the Damned. Following useful comments from several fellow AF'ers on here I changed my beta blocker to Nebivolol ...... got my life back. 😂

When wife was put on her heart meds which included Bisoprolol she was also prescribed Omeprazole. I'm guessing heartburn is a common side effect.

I take 10 mgs Bisoprolol in the evening. It has never given me heartburn, but then I have never been susceptible. I have read that it ‘does not have an effect on the stomach and therefore can be taken with or without food’. Omeprazole on the other hand, can play havoc with INR levels.

This is what google says

Interactions between your drugs

No interactions were found between omeprazole and Xarelto. However, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. Always consult your healthcare provider.

I have heartburn but had it for years before taking daily bisoprolol last March. Since taking that my heartburn (i.e. acid reflux) might well have worsened. I take a daily dose of esomeprazole, a PPI drug similar to omeprazole, which works well to stop its worst effects.

However, as effective as a PPI is, and whilst seen as generally very safe, the drugs can have rare long term side effects so, if I were you, I would first try something simpler like Rennies tablets. I found them to be very effective for years before I took a PPI. Another treatment some find useful, but which doesn't work for me, is an alginate based syrup. The branded form is called Gaviscon, but much cheaper versions are identical and easily available.

Naproxen is one of a group of drugs called NSAIDs used for arthritis and similar. The problem with all of these is they can have the side effect of irritating the lining of the stomach and intestines which can lead to soreness, ulcers and even occasional bleeding; this, in the presence of reduced clotting of the blood from an anticoagulant has the potential to become a haemorrhage.

It may well be that naproxen was the drug that causes my stomach to now react to bisoporol. It’s really unbearable unless I take the omeprazol. I’ll have a chat with my gp. Thanks.

I would if it’s that bad for sure. I expect he’ll prescribe omeprazole as a short course over maybe a month.

Yes it did that to me. If GP won't prescribe omeprazole, there's always famotidine
