Safe? Or not?

I have had an ICD for three years now. No problem at all. Trouble is, I'm down for a colonoscopy. Is the procedure still safe for those with an ICD? Worried!

I think this needs to be discussed with your cardiologist as I'm sure none of us have the knowledge to comment.

Thanks Bob. Been trying to get through to the Endoscopy department to check. Meanwhile, there must be some here who've had a 'scope procedure.

I've had various over the years but not an ICD. I can't see why it would be a problem but who actually knows.?

Thanks again Bob. I'll have to get an answer one way or another, and post it for the benefit of others.

I had a pre-colonoscopy appointment. I don't have an ICD. For the two colonoscopies I chose not to be sedated nor to have gas and air. I had two, a fortnight apart because I take an AntiCoagulant. The first was diagnostic to see if there were any polyps. The second, once I'd come off Warfarin for five days was to remove the four polyps found.I found watching the colonoscopies fascinating. The worst part of having colonoscopies is taking a prescribed laxative to clear the colon. It's not bad but you need to be near a toilet for a few hours

Thomas - you're brave! Can I ask if you are on Warfarin or a NOAC? I take Apixaban. My assessment is in 10 days time. I might have a question or two for them!

On Warfarin.

1 believe Apixaban is more accommodating. Anyway - polyps better out than in. Job done.

I have a pacemaker and have regular colonoscopies, I'm on Apixaban and haven't had any problems stopping it for a few days. I usually have sedation but last one I just had pain relief and it was fine.

I’ve had 3 colonoscopies and the removal of polyps I take apixaban and stopped taking it for 48 hrs before the procedure and for 7 days afterwards, with no problems. Hope this helps!
