Suggest first a simple blood test to find out where you are in the normal range. If you need supplement to reach the top quartile then choose a reputable supplier. In the UK I use Lamberts and take 200mgs on weekdays and 100mgs on weekend days to keep me right at the top of the normal range. Incidentally, I also take a Magnesium supplement as the two are supposed to work well together for AF.
Can a normal GP organise this blood test? What should we be asking for? I'm taking Q10 in a form recommend here and I definitely feel better on it. Plus the high potency magnesium as suggested
Unless special circumstances, you will have to go private through an Alternative Practitioner. I have arranged, pre-Covid, the test via a Naturopath who authorises BioLab London to send me the phials & posting kit etc, I then pay my GP surgery £25 to take the blood and I post it off to BioLab with my cheque for around £40 if memory serves. I had 6 monthly tests for 2 yrs to gauge how much Co Q10 I should be taking; haven't had one for 2 years now so due another just to check.
Taken CoQ10 for 10 years, I find it works better for me that Ubiquinol which is active ingredient. I was advised to take it by EP and all the research I’ve seen suggests that anyone on statins or with a heart condition would benefit.
Any reputable supplier - there are lots who aren’t - Lamberts, Solgar are good but I find Nature’s Aid suits me best. I started on 100mg and now take 300mg.
Always read the label as there is one high street brand who are notorious for advertising a 100g tablet but when you read the label it may only contain 40g of the active ingredient, the rest will be filler.
Naturesbest is the cheaper branch of Lamberts, used them for years and very helpful if you have questions. I have 200mg
I've been taking Q10 for at least 17 years. I used to import it from the USA, but customs charges became too high so I switched to Simply Supplements (Peterborough UK) version on an auto repeating order. I've always taken 300 mg capsules.
All the best.

I used to take a daily dose of Q10, and then one day when picking up my Apixaban prescription I decided to check with the pharmacist that the supplements I was taking were okay. They did a check on their computer and suggested I stop taking Q10 as it was not considered safe with Apixaban. Why, I have no idea, but I took their advice.
Been taking CoQ10 (200mg)on and off for 10 years.Heard it works best with PPQ (30mg).Switched to Ubiquinol (more expensive)which makes me very sleepy.Think there is too much hype on the active form so reverting back.No need to fine tune this as it is very connected to your age, metabolic rate and activity.Good luck.
I was advised to take up to 200 mg by a cardiologist.
COq10 has been known to reverse heart failure ... and raise the heart's blood-pumping 'ejection' rate from dismal into the low normal range. So, it is a very powerful cardiac tonic.
Thank you all for your input.I'm having a cardioversion on the 4th of March. I will ask the question while I'm there.
Once again many thanks.
Hi Tommo because of my age I take Ubiquinol ( the active form of CoQ10 )rather than Q10 although it is more expensive. I buy Solgar Ubiquinol 100 mg but have never paid full price , the manufactures site had 15% off and half price from Holland and Barret
