Hoes it going fellow heart obsessed lot, do any of you guys take this and how much? I’ve tried magnesium and with the beta blockers it seems to slow my heart way too much. Pvcs are frequent but not as bad as they were. They’re there all the time so looking for a natural help. Cod liver oil is good for the ticker isn’t it?

CoQ10 is a natural enzyme which helps your microcondria to release energy and levels in the body tends to decrease with age. Anyone with cardiac problems, especially if you take statins may benefit. Taking CoQ10 will not help your AF or have any affect on rate or rhythm or PVC’s.

Fish Oils can also be of nutritional benefit but if you are on anticoagulants or antiplatlets there are some people who may find taking them may increase your bleed risk.

If the Beta Blockers are slowing your heart down to an unacceptable level then you need to speak to doctor about alternatives or reducing the dose.

Magnesium is essential for our body but may increase the efficacy of the beta blockers. Try using the skin spray instead.

For PVC relief the best thing is learning breath control and managing stress levels.

If you are taking nutrition seriously you need professional advice so may I suggest you book an appointment with a Nutritionist or Lifestyle doctor because unless you know exactly what you are doing you may be wasting your money on supplements.

Hope some of that helps.

PS - I started at 30mg/daily CoQ10 originally but now up to 100mg. I did a stint on 200mg but couldn’t see any benefit to me, just to the manufacturer.

I took 100mg for years in a complex that had a small amount of zinc and some other things in it. Then the company in Italy stopped making it. So I switched recently to a German brand of 200mg . Since switching my last afib attack was nearly 13 weeks after the previous one much longer than for a couple of years. No idea yet if it's a coincidence.

My pvcs come on mainly after eating, since my second ablation for Af they’ve been a pain, I can’t take flecainide as my ventricles are borderline enlarged. My resting heart rate has dropped a lot recently and this seems to invite them on. I may phone my eps secretary and see if I could have a new beta blocker or something other than flecainide.

Hello Achant1, I've been taking CoQ10 for years with no problems related to it. I have just started on 600mg last month was taking 400mg for many years, don't know if it helps but what the heck it hasn't hurt anything yet.

That’s a high dose. Why so high? Were your levels very low?

I didn't know there were any values to consider with CoQ10, I just figured the higher the better.

I doubt whether there are any dangers to taking such a high dose other than cost but would question whether there would be any benefits either.

I called my Dr. after your response and he said the same thing you just said, in fact he read to me that 50-300 was the study dose and anything over that had no benefits at all. Thank You so much for bringing this to my attention . Have a Blessed Day!

Naturopath recommended a Magnesium compound and CoQ10 until you reach the upper qartile of the normal range. I have taken an average of 175mgs CoQ10 over 8 years with no issues. This pushed me just over the top of the normal range. In the last couple of months, I have just stopped taking it as I felt I was still buzzing at bed time and I think I go to sleep better now.

The main reason for taking CoQ10 is associated with statin use.

Statins reduce the production of cholesterol which is beneficial if it is high, but it also reduces the production of CoQ10 which is not beneficial.

Since taking statins I have also supplemented this reduction in CoQ10 by taking 100mg of Ubiquinol every day, this is a reduced version of CoQ10 which is recommended for older people as it is supposed to be more effective.

As with all supplementation, it's very difficult to prove a negative, but I have had no problem whatsoever with potential statin side effects.

As with all supplements, only buy from quality suppliers as there are lots of fakes out there, especially on Amazon.

Hope this helps, good luck.

I've been taking 150mg per day of Q10 for at least 10 years. I was advised to take it when I started on a statin when my cholesterol was 6. I now take the Q10 with 5mg of statin daily, plus of course the usual AF drugs !
