Has anybody had bad side effects with Astravenneca Oxford vaccine. My heart was racing around 95 bpm for about 24 hours with really bad nausea.

Yes its thrown my system out of whack similarly too. Was fine before but felt rough since jab, my gut and heart well and truly making their presence felt. Hope things settle for you soon.

in reply to meadfoot

Did you have the AZ vaccine or Pfizer?

meadfoot profile image
meadfoot in reply to

AZ.

in reply to meadfoot

If you don’t mind my asking, were you given any advice or information about the AZ vaccine and the heart? Have the symptoms lessened over time?

meadfoot profile image
meadfoot in reply to

No advice. i mentioned i had af to the nurse administering the vaccine and told her about my anticoagulant too but she was unconcerned and made no comment. Perhaps it is unrelated to the vaccine and/or its too early in the mass roll out for any information to have been picked up. All i can say is my heart and gut have been off kilter ever since. Who knows.

I had flu like symptoms, nausea, headache, diarrhoea etc the next day post jab so its reasonable to assume those symptoms, especially the gastric symptoms caused my heart to get out of sync as my gastro/heart connection is pronounced and accepted as an issue for me by my medics.

Lbeat796 in reply to meadfoot

Your symptoms sound same as mine but i dont have link between stomach problems and arrythmias. And i was perfectly relaxed having the jab. As long as it works

Lbeat796 profile image
Lbeat796 in reply to

No i had no warning of it being a possible side effect

The AZ type

I am fine now but bad nausea for around 12 hours and raised heart rate with headache. It was the raised heart rate which worried me as had not heard of this before as a side effect

Exactly the same for me, high HR (97) while resting and over 110 when moving from Ato B. Nausea and overwhelming tiredness. My painful arm seemed to be the least of my worries but at least knowing others had the same is reassuring! 🤣

Same here. After my vaccine I felt rough and then on the sixth day I went into Af about 5pm so went to bed. Woke at 4ish and fainted. Husband tried to catch me but didn’t manage to. He called the ambulance but apart from af and high blood pressure couldn’t find anything wrong. Also was being sick when I came too. Very frightening at the time. Still feel very bloated and tired. Might be a coincidence and nothing to do with the vaccine but it’s strange you have had heart and gut problems as well.

meadfoot profile image
meadfoot in reply to Redders

Sorry to hear of your awful experience. I suspect there was a link rather than coincidence. Heres hoping everything settles down for you now. I am still far from right again. Horrid isnt it.

Redders profile image
Redders in reply to meadfoot

It certainly is awful. Are you still in AF ? I am and my stomach is grumbling and bloated

meadfoot profile image
meadfoot in reply to Redders

Sorry to hear this. This stomach and heart connection really gets us down. I cant understand why medics are happy to agree the connection but seem incapable of giving anything to assist in relieving it. Its really getting me down ongoing as it must be you, Linking the connection is one thing trying to live with it is another.

I am at a loss how to deal with it or even lessen the effects. We seem to have to just wait it out until things settle and then hope for the best until the next time and start all over again. Its so waring. I hope things resolve for you quickly. The fear is awful as i know just how you feel. I so empathise with you. X

I had the first dose of Moderna vaccine last week. 17 hours later, I went into AFIB. My heart raced 150 bpm for 24 hours and then returned to normal rhythm. Not sure if I want the second does.

Lbeat796 profile image
Lbeat796 in reply to Hcoe

Good luck with second jab.

Yes. I had the vaccination around 14 hours ago and have had palpitations (a “heavy” beat to the heart)and an elevated heart rate since. I was/am worried that this could trip over into AF. I was told by the nurse that the vaccine would not affect

PAF, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I hope the effect is short-lived. Has your heart returned to

normal now?

Lbeat796 profile image
Lbeat796 in reply to

Sounds exactly like me. I am never aware of my heartbeat unless i take one of my episodes! But heart raised from around 60 to 95 for Round 12 hours. I too was a bit frightened of it developing into an arrythmia. It went back to normal after 12 hours with nausea and headache also better

I had the AZ vaccine 10 days ago and had chills soon afterwards. During the night I woke with a fever, over 101 and my heart rate was late 90’s but in sinus rhythm. I also had aching joints and muscles and headache. I took some paracetamol in the morning and as my temperature came down so did my heart rate. I felt much better after a couple of days . Very grateful I didn’t go into AF. I suppose it could be said I had a good immune response. Wary of having the 2nd jab.

Given that there were probably no/ very few people suffering from afib in the clinical trials how could she possibly know? Sounds like false reassurance to me. A more honest answer would be " we don't know".

I was not aware of any problems with my heart. Just had relatively mild flu type symptoms for 2/3 days.

I had AZ Oxford. Only effect was a slight headache just above my forehead for three days. However the Patient's leaflet for the AZ vaccine does ask that you speak to a doctor, nurse or pharmacist about the side effects not mentioned in the leaflet and to report them on the Corona virus Yellow Card reporting site.

Lbeat796 profile image
Lbeat796 in reply to Thomas45

Thanks Thomas. I will do that as it less frightening for people if you know about all possible side effects

I had the Pfizer vaccine last Wednesday and by the evening had a very tender arm. Just over 24 hours later I went into AF which lasted for 26 hours. Never had an episode this long. I will be reporting via the yellow card system.

I also had a few heart wobbles for a couple of days (i have PAF resolved by cryo in 2008) so ended up taking my Pill in the Pocket one night and things have calmed back down.

Lizty profile image

Linda, as an afibber, the main symptom I had, apart from a sore arm, was a few days of painful tiredness....what I normally call 'a crash.'..... That is, after a long stressful period with heightened anxiety which ends quite suddenly... my body will go into an adrenalin drop. And with the adrenalin drop, I will always get temporary palpitations as my heart gets the message! [I believe this is quite a common phenomenon amongst teachers at the end of term!] Most of my friends have been absolutely fine since getting the vaccine.... but many almost delirious with relief.......so I guess psychology may also play a large part. Never underestimate the stress we have all been under, especially those of us who are anxious anyway.

I had the AZ on Thursday - sore arm and headache sinceAlso raised heart rate, had to take PIP and some nausea

I asked the GP who administered my vaccine if the side effects would be worse because I was diagnosed with Covid on 3/1/21 and he said he had not heard that but may be worse after the second dose

It has not put me off having the second dose - having Covid was scary

I had the AZ vaccine on Wednesday. The next day I had an uncomfortable sensation in my chest. This persisted and over the next couple of days I struggled to make sense of my pulse, which seemed erratic and weak. On Saturday I decided to go to A & E, where it was confirmed I was in AF. The first nurse I spoke to said it could have been brought on by the vaccine as it could produce a similar reaction to an infection. Doctors I spoke to later in the day were less keen to offer an opinion. I was treated, mainly with Bisoprolol, and was sent home later the same day. Prior to this incident, I had not been aware of having an episode of AF for 4 years so, I think quite reasonably, was left wondering if there were a connection between the vaccine and this episode. Perhaps the second jab, when it comes, will confirm or otherwise.

I Notice this pfser vacs.Astra Zenica is thought to have more.my conversations with Gp & Paramedic at my local surgery have indicated this.

kkatz profile image

Yes.I have had a few conversations with 2 docs & was examined by my practice paramedic. All asked which one.when replied Astra Zenica reactions where 1 gave a very knowing umm,1 said they have slightly more side effects ,1 said yes my are getting more people suffering reactions but not as long as my case. Now I must point out none indicated this was particularly heart related.& Also our area few Pszer & Thousands of Astra Zenica. Also my 2 weeks AF could be down to other things.

If you go for the vaccine worrying about getting an episode of AF as a result, then you're probably increasing your chances of that happening as we all know 'worry/stress' is a factor in starting episodes.

Lbeat796 profile image
Lbeat796 in reply to Alan_G

Worry and stress have never started mine. Weird thing is I usually take one when happy! I not worried now that i know side effects only last for a short time. Good luck

Splitting headache and feeling hot during night after vaccine. For a while my heart seemed to be racing but still in rythmn. Arm sore for at least a week afterwards. That's was AZ vaccine. Hopefully second dose is without side affects.

Had AZ vaccine yesterday with no symptoms cardiac or otherwise beyond a little soreness at the injection site.

I had AZ vaccine last Wed no problems till Friday when I had an extremely sore and swollen arm also nausea then early hours of Saturday dreadful diarrhoea. I am in permanent AF and didn’t notice any problems with my heart. My biggest problem was my arm. Now Sunday and all seems to have resolved, am pleased to say. My husband had his at the same time( does not have heart condition) and had no side effects at all.

Hi, Reading these comments seriously puts me off having the Jab if this is the first one. I have also read mouth ulcers and throat ulcers as well. I am not diagnosed properly yet. So I am going to wait until I have had further heart tests(Echo and Electrics) which are due. I have multiple drug intolerance syndrome so rare side effects I get. 🤔

bantam12 profile image
bantam12 in reply to Brandibell

Me to, I have multiple health problems and some of these potential side effects could be disastrous 😬 I had my letter this morning but I'm not going to book it yet !

Brandibell profile image
Brandibell in reply to bantam12

Hi, thank goodness i am not on my own.I am due a letter soon also. I am rather well at present so I am staying this way for now. The side effects are far too risky and not enough about them is being mentioned. I have read how people have been polaxed for a few days. I am a single parent this really isn't helpful to me.

I had the Pfizer vaccine at 2pm and at 2am went into fast AF for the first time in my life. No other symptoms, just racing pulse, erratic heart rate and rushed to A&E. All settled down but very scary. Haven't really felt right since although no repeat of the AF. I have had a benign ectopic beat for over 10 yrs now and am never really aware of it, but now in the last 4 weeks, I am aware of my heart rhythm most of the time especially when lying down at bedtime. Any one else had a similar experience ? Also, not sure if I really want to take the 2nd dose to be honest..
