Hair loss

I'm a 64 year old female who was on 25 mg of Metoprolol bid until March 2020 after what I now believe to be a panic attack and landing in the ED with heart rates of 140- 150 in sinus rhythm, my dose was double to 50mg bid . Now I'm shedding mounds of hair daily even if I just run my hands through it. Im already on 6000 of biotin , stopped coloring my hair , using only organic natural hair product and just added a B-zinc complex to my vitamin regimen. Has anyone else experienced hair loss with beta blockers, specifically Metoprolol?

yes i always had hair that was in good condition its now like straw no matter how careful i am with products. i had the metoprolol dose halved 3 weeks ago and i have noticed the hair loss is less i definately think it is the cause of my hair problems

I'm pretty sure this is true in my case. I have to speak with my cardiologist/ EP docs and see if I can make a medication adjustment . Thanks for the feedback on your experience.

I have the same issue as well. I’m on Metoprolol 25 mg twice a day. When I first noticed it, I mentioned it to my hairdresser. She said it was the amount of stress and anxiety I was having. After talking to some of my colleagues at school, they have mentioned the same thing. None of them are on beta blockers. The amount of stress that people are feeling during this pandemic can be overwhelming.

I agree stress is a factor but i was far more stressed at the beginning of the pandemic which was the same time my dose of Metoprolol was increased. I mellowed considerably over the summer through the fall, which is when I started to notice the hair loss (about 6 months of the higher dose). I'm sure just the normal seasonal shedding ans age are also a factor.

I’m on 50mg metoprolol twice a day and I have lost half of my hair volume. Constantly picking hair off of everything. I wasn’t sure what to blame as I’m also on dibigitran and diltiazem.
