I'm 43 and female and I have AF and flutter every second or third day. Meds are I.25 Bisop, flecainide as a pip, and Edoxopan every day. I have been on Bisop for a year and the others for 4 months. I have lost 50% of my hair - it feels like it was sudden enough as I have only noticed in the last 6 weeks. I recently got referred to EP and I am on a waiting list for an ablation, wait will be circa 1 year for the procedures.
I am assuming it is the Edoxoban that is causing the hair loss but obviously I can't be certain. EP is not worried cause it sounded like I was telling the mechanic who was fixing the engine that the seat belts were hurting me 😀. Despite the smiley emoji I am feeling a small bit depleted. Anyone have a similar experience or good news story that it may settle down. Thanks for listening 😀

Hi Anne. I also take bisoprolol and flecainide plus an anti coagulant and haven’t had a problem with hair loss myself - for me, statins caused hair loss but fortunately I don’t have to take them any more so my problem resolved itself. But I do sympathise as it really affected my mood and my confidence at the time. I have read on one forum that bisoprolol can have this side effect for some people also can be caused by a thyroid problem. I would definitely see your GP about this - there are alternative beta blockers and other tests can be done to find out the reason for this hair loss. Your EP might not consider it important In the scheme of AF things, but actually hair loss is a big issue for us women. It affects our confidence, gets us down, at a time when we are trying to be positive and upbeat to deal with the AF. So my advice would be to get it checked out with your GP. Best wishes and good luck. Liz
Hi I have had hair loss for a while, besides A F I also have Rheumatoid Disease so also take drugs for this! I was recommended Biotin ( from American website) this works for me ( another tablet daily) there are various doses I take 12000 mcg. It is available in UK, but I buy it on Amazon. Good luck!
My wife Linda suffered hair loss when she was taking indomethacin (NSAID) for her psoriatic arthritis, so I understand how you feel about this. I believe that some steroid treatments can also have that result. +1 for seeing your GP about it - I think he can suggest alternatives to what the EP has prescribed and request the EP to consent to the drugs being changed.
All the drugs we take deplete our reserves of various vitamins and minerals. Replacing these by taking a good multi-vitamin-and mineral tablet from a health food shop may help.
I have been on metoprolol and 100mg of flecainide twice a day for 4 yrs now. It has done wonders for me. I had three ablations (none of which worked ) Have not had a episode since 2014. It works!! Good luck to you.
