Hair loss

Hello all, hope you are all good. I know I’ve spoken of hair loss before but my hair loss had stopped until I lowered medication and now it’s falling out again. My hairdresser said if you lower meds or come off it it can trigger hair loss, anyone else had this? Curious. I am about to try rosemary oil as I have heard this works 🤞😊.

I’m on bisoprolol and flecainide.

I'm on dilitiazem and apaixaban. Don't you need anticoagulants?

Can you feel new growth starting on your scalp? When mine starts shedding it's usually because I've experienced some kind of trauma. Seven weeks ago I had my gallbladder removed and afterwards when I combed my hair or washed it, I appeared to have more hair than usual in the comb or plughole. This has happened before, but feeling the new growth coming re-assures me that all will soon be as normal.

My youngest daughter has very curly hair, it's quite thick but she never has to cut it. With some people their hair only grows to a certain length, then falls out. If she pulled a strand of her hair straight it would be quite long. She went to her doctor to show him the hair that had fallen out and he told her not to be so vain. It made me laugh because there's nothing wrong with the thickness of her hair.

If you can't feel new hair growing I would have a talk with your GP, a female one if you can and see what they advise.

Let us know how you get on please as thinning hair is quite often mentioned on here.

It seems to be at the back of my head and round the hair line. It had started to get thicker but ever since I lowered my medication it started to fall out again . I tried the rosemary and lavender oil treatment today so going to see how that goes. I think what with two ablations and covid and stress I think my body needs to adjust to it all.

Yes, I bet it's the stress. It would be unusual for it to be caused by reducing your medication. Increasing it - now that I could understand

When my hair started falling out, a few years ago, after being in hospital for a few days when my nose wouldn't stop bleeding, a friend recommended Plantur 39 Phyto-Caffeine Shampoo. I thought that it worked, though must admit I didn't use it for too long as could feel new growth coming.

My hairdresser told me about hair loss when medication is lowered and it was around the same time as that that it started but I don’t know.Apparently there is a ton of women with hair loss at the moment, the hairdresser said she knows loads young and old going through it. It’s seems strange but something is going on.

Hmm, so many people having hair loss needs a bit of thought then as to what could be the cause. Could be something in food, or stress - I think young people have a lot more stress these days than we did when young.

Well I’ve had a few hairdressers tell me it’s the vaccine and after having covid.

Hi,As a 70-year-old female, I experienced horrible hair loss which gave me more stress! The hair loss began BEFORE I developed Afib 18 months ago, but I have been Afib free for over a year now, so Afib stress may not have been the culprit. I wash my hair less frequently, using gentle Silicone free shampoos and conditioners with Rosemary and any other ingredients with oils such as coconut or Avocado, additional oil treatments and leave in conditioners etc. I read hair loss is an internal issue so topical treatments may not work depending on problem.

I look in a certain light when my hair is drying, and I do see the sprouts of hair growing. It takes forever to see results, but I do see my hair is now growing. The hair loss is reduced but still losing the long strands from the root. I read this is considered normal. So, in order to remain calm when my hair falls out, (since 100 strands of hair loss a day is considered normal) I double or triple those amounts depending on how many days before I washed my hair again!) LOL

Hi yes, I experienced hair loss after starting on flecanaide and other meds 18 months ago, then it settled. Now i am having the same problem after having an AV node ablation 2 months ago and having all my meds except endoxaban stopped x

Hair loss is usually a response to body stress or trauma. It rarely happens straightaway, usually a few weeks later. Yes, meds can be an issue for thinning hair but also changes like pregnancy and menopause. Vitamin B can help and also Zinc and Vit C, but check with your med professionals or pharmacist. HTH

Hi - I have extremely fine hair - but lots of it! Since taking Edoxaban I have been far more aware of lots of hair in my brush; hair in the plughole; general shedding etc.

I mentioned it to my hairdresser and she used the clever magnifying analysis thingy they have there. The verdict was all areas healthy with normal signs of hair growth and no thinning patches. She suggested that perhaps my 'turnover' had sped up and said that hair goes in phases of quick turnover when you notice hair loss more, a dormant phase and what could be described as a normal phase.

However, I still think it's weird this only started when I started on the Edoxaban, so I've bought some of those hair and nail gummies, in the hopes they might slow things down a bit.

Hi , be careful with the gummies as they can rot the teeth.

Gosh - thanks! I'll be careful with them. They certainly goop up your mouth.

I eventually found an article about hair loss and Apixaban and yes they do speed up shedding.

Wish it was the other way around and medication gave you a lustrous thick head of hair!

Has your thyroid been tested lately? Hypothyroidism can cause hair loss.

Sorry to still blab on about hair loss - but this caught me by surprise and may be relevant to some ...

I looked up the Plantur shampoo on the 'very well known shopping site that delivers in vast quantities of cardboard and packaging'. I decided Plantur wasn't for me, but continued looking at other products that were well reviewed.

One topical solution caught my attention, it is a well known brand. However, I read the 'small print' - and was shocked that it is contra-indicated for many, including those with heart arrhythmias and other cardiac issues. Most importantly, it also stated that it was only suitable for women, and only in the 18 - 65 age group. I instantly felt VERY OLD even though I just squeeze into the accepted age range.

I wondered why the contraindication, as this solution is only used topically? I'm also fascinated why use should be stopped once a woman hits 66. Also why it is contraindicated for men ? Doing a very quick Google - I am still none the wiser on the age and gender thing.

The active ingredient is Minoxidil. An OTC remedy for high pattern hair loss in men and women. However, used orally it is also an antihypertensive vasodilator used in the treatment of high blood pressure.

Just think it might be worth looking very carefully at any hair restoring product you may be tempted to try?

Not what you're looking for?
