Hi, Ive been on bisoprolol, ramipril, indapamide and Apixaban for AF and high blood pressure. The meds are doing their job bp is now in a great place and bisoprolol doing its job. Ive been on these meds for over a year now. However in the last three weeks my hair is falling out in surprisingly amounts. Im a 55 year old man who was blessed with a full head of hair until now. The hair lose is visibly significant.
Has anyone else had this problem is there any of the meds that may be causing this ?
Strange had been using the meds for 12 months with no symptoms
Thanks for any and all advise

Unfortunately it’s a well known side affect of the Beta Blockers. My hair went very thin and with fine hair it’s very noticeable but after I stopped taking Bisoprolol and improved my nutrition both nails and hair improved. Not a good look for a woman.
What did you take instead of the bisoprolol. Ive noticed my nails were very soft when i cut them last week. What sort things do you recommend nutrition wise and any supplements ? Best wishes
I didn’t take anything instead of Biso. I do take a cocktail of vitamins & minerals for nutrition but recommended specifically for me by a nutritionist and after testing. No shortcuts.
My hair is regrowing following chemotherapy, but on hormone blockers to protect against recurrence, and Gabapentin, both of which list hair loss as side effects, I'm battling against hair thinning. I'm on Bisoprolol and Amlodipine, I hadn't realised they also contribute to hair loss. On Omeprazole too, another culprit. It's a wonder I have any hair left on my head!
This is what I do: only wash hair when needed, say twice weekly, and be gentle, don't scrub. I eat lots of oily fish and eggs, both good for hair health, and I take vitamin b12 and biotin tablets daily. Still shedding hair, but have plenty left still, so I think this regime is helping.
So, a different situation, and I'm female, but hope this may be of some help to you.
I suffered the same when I first started taking med's. It went slightly thinner on top but now that seems to passed and I have a full head of hair again.
There are some hair growth shampoo's you can buy from your chemist. However they are not cheap - I can't recommend any as I've not tried them but maybe it's worth giving it a ago for a month or so.
This link may help too. I suggest checking with your medic if you start to take any extra supplements to make sure they don't interact with your med's.
Thanks Paul appreciate your message even if its not life threatening but does knock your confidence. Good to hear youve got a good head of hair once again. I was blessed with good genetics full hair and skin a 20 year old would be proud of no wrinkles yet at 55. Shame i did inherit the heart problems that all male members have suffered in my family
Only just seen your post. I have suffered quite considerable hair loss for some years now. Having said that I do get new growth, but not as fast as I lose it. My hair is very fine and getting thinner.
In my case, I believe it to be caused by anticoagulants. I have had them all.
Currently, I am on Dabigatran which actually for me is the worst for hair loss, but I get severe nausea after taking the others for a couple of months.
Not ideal, but better to have hair loss than a stroke if I don’t take them.
I am female and have a very supportive hair dresser who says the fix has to come from within, not by expensive products. I have spent a fortune on various products that have not helped at all.
Only thing I would say is volumising products do make your hair look thicker, but of course this isn’t a fix.
