COVID and AF
Just a reminder of forum rules here but you are asked not to merely post links but always include a summary of the article with salient points.
I had seen that article last night as well. In summary it states that new onset AF on admittance to hospital doubles the risk of ventilation and increases mortality by about 50%.However for those who already have AF before Covid infection, the increase in mortality is only 35%.
There is also another smaller review mentioned where the risk of death for those already with AF is doubled, and tripled for those with new onset AF.
So I think that's why AF is considered to be in group 6 - the at-risk group for those less than 65.
However I'm not sure what account was taken of other factors which cause a lot of AF - BMI, smoking, lack of exercise etc. which also increase Covid risk.
Morning where is the article. I’d like to read it thanks
Thanks - good article.
