4 weeks post ablation

Hi all, it is now 4 weeks since my second ablation at the Alexandria Hospital in cheadle S. Manchester

I have been in sinus rhythm since I woke fro the general anaesthetic after the procedure.

I have unwillingly given my freshly ablated heart a real stress test over the past three weeks, as the Monday after the ablation I was told that a CT scan had shown shadows (2) on my liver and a thickening of my bowel wall. To be fair the doctor said there was a good chance it was not serious but my mind screamed in terror.

On Monday more detailed test results indicated that there was nothing harmful:the liver spots were/ are a benign cyst the bowel thing a polyp that will be removed in 2021 I could have wept with relief....it was a huge weight off my mind

So back to the ablation which I know survived the most intense period of anxiety I can remember

My heart rate is still a bit higher than before , mid 70s rather than 60

The groin bruise has now healed but there is a tiny sore spot where the catheters went in

I have quite a few pvc ectopics but they seem to be slowly reducing

I feel very energised but I am being strict with myself flat walks , no more than 10 kg lifting and not yet cycling ( because of cold air which was in the past a trigger)

I won’t update weekly any more so you will be spared 😀 but will update in a month or so

Steve

Steve, great news on all fronts particulary the benign nature of your other issues. Glad you are being careful .

My, you have been through the mill! Great news that things are nowhere near a bad as you first thought. Now take it easy and get your breath back so that you can enjoy Christmas.......best wishes.

The Alex is generally private, any chance of a hint to the cost to yourself?

No problem , first my costs were covered by an insurance policy, but they send detailed bills and I think the following is the total cost 3 x consultations with a brilliant EP Ben brown £450

The anaesthetist for the procedure £1400

The procedure and 1 nights stay just shy of £9,000

I may have missed some small bills so it was pretty certainly no more than £12k

They have the newest kit in the NW of U.K. for the mapping and despite being weak with fear as a card carrying coward they were really good from reception to when I went home

Really glad all going well. I am almost 4 weeks post ablation and not so for me. Seem to be in permanent a fib and hr of 120-140. Really trying hard to be positive but honestly don’t feel any better now than I did before: for the first week heart was great but since then it’s been very up and down

Sounds like you are on track. With Christmas coming and the recent stress inducing events I wouldn’t push things. Walks in the fresh air and a general chill. Don’t forget it’s a long game.
