Ablation update: 5 days

I had my ablation at Barts on Monday done by Prof Schilling and his team. As advised I have been very lazy this week and not done much at all apart from watch daytime tv! (My god that is torture! Lol) I’m a teacher and normally racing around so I find it hard to just ‘sit’. Anyway I’ve felt quilt well really. Had a few headaches, indigestion feeling in my throat, my wound is a bit weepy and I could win an Oscar for my bruises but heart seems to be behaving so that’s all positive. Today I’ve woken with some mild pains in my chest. Nothing too serious and I’m sure it’s just part of the healing process. However I am determined to take it easy and not get stressed out by the everyday stuff. I was so terrified of the ablation and now it’s done I don’t want to jeopardise anything. My GP has recommended I have another week off work and I’m taking her advice. Everyone on this forum is right, even though we have no huge wound an ablation is a type of heart surgery so we must respect that it will take time to heal and calm down. If anyone is due to have one soon I’m happy to answer any questions. This forum is definitely a huge source of comfort for people in our situation. X

Well done. Go slow and gradual and don’t be tempted to go back to work too soon. Ask for a graduated return as there are no prizes or gains from going 0-60.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Good to hear you are behaving! Please don't be tempted to go back to work too soon. Two weksshsould be considered absolute minimum time off and even a month is not excessive. As you say. don't waste all that hard work. You have a lot of healing yet to do.

I'm pleased to hear that you are doing so well after your ablation and how lucky were you to have the top man perform it!

Re the pains in the chest - I don't know if there's something about 5 days after an ablation but I had some too at that time. They happened just after I went to bed, but I'd got up to take off the electric under blanket. Felt I could feel the wires in it! At the time I thought oh no - is this a heart attack, but they soon subsided. Next morning I rang my GP and told him. His answer was to put it down as an experience, but to let him know if it happened again - it never did!

Wishing you well.
