Update about my ablation 11 days ago

Aside from the hiccup that happened five days after my ablation, where I wound up in the hospital for 2 1/2 days, I feel wonderful. I have never had my heart behave so quietly, in my life. The funny thing is, I didn’t realize my heart was so active, because I had never felt it so quiet. Even as a child, although I did not have A-fib, I did have extra beats. For example, usually, as I was in the process of something simple, like sitting down, my heart would flutter. I didn’t even realize it was fluttering until now that it feels so quiet. This is awesome and I hope it lasts.

I had a similar experiences! When I awoke from second ablation I couldn’t hear my heart beat and for a few moment I wondered if I was dead or alive, it was very weird. Like you I couldn’t remember a time when I wasn’t conscious of my heart and I could always hear it, no more. I now understand why so many people get freaked out whe. They are used to quiet and suddenly start to hear their heart because it is very loud.

Hi Alfie - likewise, since my ablation 18 days ago (including4 days post procedure and then another 5 days readmission for post ablation pericarditis and oesphagitis!) my heart is soooooo quiet and in NSR. It isn't pounding in my ears, thumping in my chest, only very minimal palpitations very occasionally. May we both continue like this, it's wonderful, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

Im delighted for you Cat04 great news. Easy does it now, no galavanting 😉. Im interested re the post procedure pericarditis nd oesphagitis and how they were fixed. I had inflamation of heart and lung after abl for afib. But...on discharge (stayed extra day) was told take 80mg nexium eventually 4weeks later given strong anti inflam meds. I will have 2nd abl on dec 10th and more anxious this time round. EP says it will be much easier this time and I shouldn't be as sick. He missed my point which is he should have realised what was wrong straightaway. Best wishes for afib free.

Haha I haven't galavanted for years!

I was given 40mg omeprazole twice daily and metoclopramine 10mg three times a day for the oesphagitis and 500mg colchicine for the pericarditis as I can't have nsaids. I/v fentanyl for the pericarditis pain whilst still in recovery room, then 2 hourly Morphine, coming down to codeine, tramadol & paracetamol as I progressed with coping with the pain. Day 20 post abl now the oesphageal pain has nearly gone but still on small & soft meals. The pericarditis still painful but covered by paracetamol & tramadol prn.

I was discharged on day 4 post abl & readmitted on day 7 with my own diagnoses (!) which it took a little while and ct scan/echo/ xray for the medical staff to agree with. I even had to suggest colchicine to one consultant (the one that said "I agree with your diagnoses")!

Getting there in the end and I'm sure you won't have a repeat problem, your EP will be more aware -if that is the right phrase, but I can understand your anxiety. Sending positive thoughts.

Sounds like bliss!

About 4 days following my ablation I experienced the quiet heart, didn't feel a thing for 24 hours. It was lovely. Unfortunately it didn't last and I have been feeling palpitations daily since

Sorry. Are palpitations the same as ectopics? Has the ablation kept your afib at bay?

in reply toAlfieros

palpitations are "feeling your heartbeat" so could be ectopics, tachycardia , premature etc etc

In my case, mostly ectopics and tachy

Thank you for your reply and I hope your palpitations are replaced with normal rhythm soon.

I think they are here to stay, some days are better than others . But touch wood, I'm not in AF
