How to deal with the shortness of breath attributed to Eliquis. Is there a good time to take it to avoid the side effect when walking as part of my exercise program? Is there another blood thinner that does not have this side effect? Being outside is so important for my mental health during this crisis. Shout out to all who post here that make our lives in quarantine so much more bearable. Blessings on you all.

Eliquis and shortness of breath
I have been taking Eliquis/Apixaban for some years. No problems. Maybe it is something else that is causing your shortness of breath?
Are you sure it's the Eliquis causing it, I haven't noticed a problem with it but since having a pacemaker my microvascular angina is worse and that causes me breathlessness when I'm walking.
We rarely hear of breathing problems associated with Eliquis (Apixaban) but shortness of breath is a common problem with AF and also is a side effect frequently connected with Betablockers.
Not taking any beta blockers but I am on 5mg. Prednisone for PMR. Could be that combo. Thanks
Been on Eliquis for years and I am very active, no problems to report. As Flapjack says, the only shortness of breath I've encountered is AF itself and worse still, betablockers.
I agree with other posts. Taken it and have no recognisable side effects. As a lapsed long distance runner (worn out joints) but now keen walker. I have not found any issues with breath. I feel it might be worth investigating its underlying reasons.
Is it the elequis? I don’t think that affects me.
I’ve put it down to bisoprolol which helped when cardio halveddose but still aren’t in top gear......ask your cardio

Hi spiritlife. Actually feeling “ short of breath” on Eliquis can be a side effect. It’s an uncommon side effect. Patients usually feel like they are not getting enough air on exertion rather than being short of breath. Speak to your GP or cardiologist and maybe try a different ent NOAC.
Not experienced this with Apixaban.
GP changed me to Edoxaban, my breathing became very difficult after a couple of days. I stuck it out for three weeks but asked to be changed back to Apixaban.
No breathing problems after the change back.
I have taken Apixaban for about a month and I get shortness of breath.
Never made any connection with this drug though. Always assumed it was the bisoprolol or flecainide.
Hope you feel better soon. 😊
I’m on Eliquis, and have not had any SOB with it, the only time it happens is when I know I’m in AFib, then I feel sort of breathless
That happens when I am in afib, too. I am thinking it could be a residual from having the flu in early March. Took a month to feel some energy, and I did have a bad cough. Good I had the flu swab which tested positive. Type A. Or I would have had lots of angst over covid19. When it is available, I will get checked for antibodys just to be sure.
I have been on Eliquis for over four years and have not experienced any shortness of breath and I do walk 3 to 4 miles almost everyday. Sorry you are having issues.
Been on Elquis a few years now with no ill effects. Shortness of breath comes with the Afib - that’s more likely.
Is your dr. telling you it’s elequist that is causing your shortness of breath? I’m on elequist and don’t experience that side effect.
I got side effects from Rivaroxaban and so my cardiologist gave me a prescription for Pradaxa (dabigatran) and asked me to stop taking the Rivaroxaban for a day or two to see whether the side effects went, which they did. I was then able to go straight onto the Pradaxa, from which I've had no side effects at all. Good to check with your cardiologist about checking the effects of Eliquis and the possibility of trying an alternative.
