I have been on Apixaban blood thinners for over a year and find I am out of breath very easy lately. Can Apixaban cause this?

Apixaban and shortness of breath
As far as I know, it is not one of the side effects normally associated with Apixaban. I’ve been taking it since around 2015 and it certainly has not affected me in that way. I see you have had an ablation, so what is your current situation regarding AF. If you are still experiencing AF or taking beta blockers or perhaps some other medications then obviously this may be a contributory factor. I suggest you raise it with your Doctor just to make sure that everything is OK…..
I really don’t see how but AF will leave you short of breath as will other meds you may take such as Beta Blockers.
I’ve taken Apixaban for 9 years now and I do not take any other heart meds so can categorically say it does not cause me any breathlessness. Proviso - everyone reacts very differently and there is always a very small possibility that you might react to a filler in the tablet which causes a reaction. You could try changing brands?
I don't know of any evidence that Apixaban causes breathlessness - I've been taking it for 10 years, without problems.
The medical culprit for breathlessness is usually a beta blocker such as Bisoprolol but if you are concerned about it, best to check with your doctor.
Apixaban does not make me short of breath. My AF did. I have AF less often nowadays thanks to treatment.
However shortness of breath can have multiple causes from late-onset asthma or tiredness, right through to pulmonary embolism and heart failure, so really needs checking out. I've had it and the cause was pleural effusions, set right by antibiotics. Recently another cause was found which was far more serious, which I won't go into here. But get it checked. We're always ready to blame our meds ( I do it!) But there may be a physical cause as I have learned.
I have been on Apixaban since 2011 with no side effects. I do take beta blockers that do give me shortness of breath as does AF on occasions. As far as I am aware it’s not a side effect of blood thinners.
I have no problem with Apixaban but did with Bisoprolol and all kinds of rate control medication beta blockers and calcium channel blockers so do not take them - they made me feel far worse than the Afib.
Could the issue be anaemia - may be worth a blood test?
