Can Flutter cause high Blood Pressure ?

Before my first flutter in April, I was really happy with my blood pressure at 124/78 (ish). It had been like that for few years. Back in 1995 when I was single and used to be 'out on the town' quite regularly, it was around 150/95 and my doctor wanted me on BP pills for life... The nurse told me (in confidence) that NHS doctors get a commission for how many people they can get on medication ... Keeping them zombiefied until they die is cheaper. Anyway, I got married and moved to the US and cut my beer to 4 a week, and bingo ! 124/78, which proves the NHS Doc's idea of pills for life was quite unnecessary.. Just cut down the beer ! Anyway since April and my first flutter, I am up at 150 again quite regularly but not all the time...

Last Saturday I had my 2nd flutter and I was at 220/166, pulse 150. Converted to 66 pulse in 4 hours with a single 50mg Metoprolol. I am totally off betas and taking eliquis for a week or two, just in case the 4 hour flutter cooked up some clotting...

My bp is still up there at 140 or 150 regularly

Could my leaving betas 8 days ago (only 25mg) be causing my high bp or perhaps the residual shock from my 220/166 episode ?

So the question is : Can flutter cause a high BP that lingers for months ? All my month long 24/7 monitoring etc shows my heart as totally ok...

I suspect that you may be overthinking this one but as I am no doctor maybe time to ask yours.

IMHO - Any arrythmia may alter BP - in my case it normally drops like a stone but for many - it increases but as for one causing the other - I tend to think of both BP and Arrythmia as symptoms of an underlying dysfunction. We are not parts - we are a unified system of complex systems and BP and Heart are one and the same system so if one changes, so will the other.

Dr Gupta posted a video on the correlation between BP and arrythmias and likened the change to a hosepipe - when the tap is pulsed there will be changes in the flow and the pressure of the water inside.

When you take your BP can be relevant - you should have been sitting for 10 mins prior to taking. You should take 3 readings and take the average of the 3 as to record.

If you are concerned you really should consult with your doctor.

All that makes sense... I dont wait long enough to settle before taking BP. I tend to leap up from my computer and go into my (3) monitor room (lol) and do it while I am still revved up from 2 hours sitting.. Yes; 'overthinking' and owning 3 monitors are co-existing conditions.... lol..... I may need to get back on betas or some other drug to control the BP as my weight/nonsmoking/low alcohol /exercise etc are all in place, and have been for some years. Yes the high BP coincided with my flutter and took me by surprise as I was doing so well with BP

BP must be flutter related and something must be going on all the time even though I am 6 months between flutter event.. Nothing showed on my one month 24/7 monitor, but I guess the heart stuff that causes high BP and sometimes flutter , may not manifest itself in arrhythmas at all most of the time
