Should i have 3rd ablation at 73 yrs old?

I had an ablation for flutter in 2011 and another one for AFib in 2015. I've been in A fib maybe 4 times in the past year and the episodes lasted maybe 6 hours. I'm on Eliquis and Multaq which is very expensive in the US. I've been buying it throught a Canadian pharmacy to save some $. I've failed almost all the other drugs available for rhythm and rate control on the past. I wonder how long Multag will last before it fails as well. I don't want to come out worse. I would like to get off drugs. I just don't know.

If it helps you to make a decision I had my 7th ablation at the age of 70.

I think it would be worth discussing your options with your EP Cardiologist.

I did discuss with my EP. He said about a 75% chance of success. After 7 ablations, are you AFib and drug free? Also the fact that my husband has Alzheimer's colors my decision. I have tobe able to take care of him. Thank you for replying.

I have been pretty well AF free for two years with only a very few very short episodes in that time. I have been totally AF free since early March.

I am not drug free. I still take Flecainide and Warfarin. To me it is not a problem taking tablets and I have no known side effects.

Why hasn't EP suggested flecanaide. It has been around a long time and has proven effective. It is quite cheap as well.

What about a pacemaker? There's another post recently from someone in a similar situation.

You need to have a chat with Hidden , he's had two very successful ablations and felt wonderfully well after each one, so could perhaps advise you on your next step . As I've mentioned his name he will see my answer to you and hopefully respond here.

Wishing you well.

I haven't had an ablation but it may be you just need a little touch uo to the 2015 one. When the scars heal they shrink and often need just a touch more work - which stops the errant signals getting through and making things worse???
