Synchronicity in action as I am just about to look for travel insurance for a short trip to Ireland - Which - arrived on my doorstep & in my email box this morning with great articles and advice on taking out travel insurance - which I know has bee a regular subject of discussion.
Note that the law is changing soon and all insurance companies who deny cover to people with chronic conditions need to signpost to companies who will cover.
I am about to check out my regular insurance provider against the list - I’ll let you know how I get on.

Well just for reference I compared my regular company with the cheapest on the list Blue Bear - which was £7 more expensive - before declaring 4 medical conditions so I think I’ll stick -
Travelinsurance4medical.co.uk
Quoted £55 for 8 days in Europe - base cover without declaring medical conditions = £33 - excluding Spain (always more expensive).
I put a gadget excess on =£5 for my new iPad - so that means my 4 medical conditions - AF, Myasthenia, Sleep Apnea + having had 1 TIA actually cost me £17 for one week. I don’t think that is excessive and good to have the reassurance of cover. That was a mid-range option - there was a budget option.
Unfortunately not an option for me as I can’t find anyone to cover me for multi trip. I think I found one last year but it was over £1k as it included US - it was much cheaper to do one trip as we don’t travel that much these days.
After I first developed AF I tied to get worldwide travel insurance and was signposted by the regular large companies like Staysure and Aviva to AllClear. They don’t appear on price comparison sites but are on the British Heart Foundation website list. My husband had a claim last year and they were very good.Unfortunately very expensive but we are desperate to travel while we still can.
I paid 750 for a world wide ins this year which inc the Us , and that cover was only for 2 weeks ! , I have A Fib , had a stroke in 2013 over 60, but awaiting a procedure threw me over into a different league they said . Mind blowing
I found the big inflators are:- age, unplanned trips to hospital and awaiting procedures. My husband was quoted over £1K for 5 days in US - which is why he had to wind up his business there.
A friend recently took out a policy with Asda....underwritten by Staysure and much cheaper than their renewal offer from Staysure. Several med conditions inc. AF
Thanks for this useful post which I have only just noticed! I am worried about post Brexit insurance as we go to France often and use only the EHIC (formerly E111) travel card, paying and reclaiming if we need medical care. After October we will presumably have to get some more serious cover.
