I had a burning sensation in my upper chest. It did feel a bit like heartburn but turned out to be thst start of a horrible upper respiratory tract virus. If you still have it tomorrow get some medical advice. X

If the pain is acid related, taking a dose of Milk of Magnesia or sodium bicarbonate will, at least temporarily, immediately solve the problem. That is a good first move to differentiate causes, I find. If the burning is being caused by something else, then I would see how things go over the day and, if there's no improvement, check with your GP.

Heart-related issues, I have found, also cause stomach discomfort. Since suffering with atrial flutter and now having had an ablation, I've had a many strange sensations from the stomach and food pipe area. These must somehow be related to the heart and the ablation.

The last twice I had that trouble was somewhere in the middle of the night, waking me up. No idea what it was at first, but really in pain. As I have angina, my first thought was, get the GTN which I always keep close at hand. That sorted the trouble on both occasions. I'm not saying it was definitely angina, but, the GTN seemed to be the answer. Maybe you could ask your GP to check that out. Good luck, and Take care. Dave.

Sorry about my naivity, but what do you mean GTN?

GTN is a spray that is put under the tongue opening blood vessels. It stands for ' Glycerol Tri Nitrate ', (if that's the correct spelling). I also take a tablet of Isosorbide mononitrate once a day, but as with everything nothing is100 percent. If you are picked up by an ambulance with heart problems you will more than likely get some GTN. I hope I've got it right for you. More can be found on the internet. Good luck. Dave.

Did you have an ablation recently? Could be inflammation of your pericardium...?

I had a similar burning sensation and it felt like I was on fire. I did not think it was heartburn, but after an endoscope it turned out that is exactly what is was. Doctor said I had gastritis and acid reflux.
