As I posted yesterday I had an ablation on Thursday and felt very well and relieved after itToday I have a sharp , burning pain in my throat and oesophagus that will not go away
I think it must be due to the oesophagus ultra sound I had during the ablation .
I am worried that any inflammation so near my heart might not be good
Has anyone else experienced this ?
Any suggestions on how to calm the pain please
Here I am asking your advice yet again !

I had similar after left atrial appendage occlusion (due to combination of breathing tube and probe tube down the throat. It took over a week to settle and I found a drinking a mix of orange juice, honey and warm water was soothing (recommended by a nurse at the cardio day centre )
I had an ablation last week and my throat was terribly sore. Paracetamol tablets helped and ice cream relieved it too plus some honey and ginger in warm drink. It must have been the TOE. My throat was fine after a week.
BobDs advice about Gaviscon is helpful. Although if you are in the US it's not the same effective formula. It's safe to take as the active ingredient is seaweed which forms a protective barrier over the stomach contents and stops them from spilling upwards into the oesophagus and upwards to the larynx. Try together Gaviscon Advance as a liquid - it's the most effective form. When taking at night, no water or food afterwards so that th alginate barrier remains in place while you are sleeping.
Had Ablation 3 weeks ago. On discharge I was told to take x2 Omeprazol daily for 3 months in case of any damage to Oesophagus plus Paracetamol as a precaution to any pain for 5 days after Ablation.
Yes.. Beta blockers 5 mg, BP meds and I have been put on temporary Amiodarone.I was put on Amiodarone prior a DCCV as the previous one failed to revert back to SR. So my wonderful Cardiologist, suggest keep me on same meds until he sees me next.
But I don't know about Flecinide, I can't see why not?
Did you have a TOE immediately before the ablation procedure ?? (i.e. a trans-oesophageal echo to check for any blood clots in your atria.) If so, the sore throat is to be expected. Or did you have sedation with intubation for the ablation procedure ? If so, ditto. If neither of the aforementioned, then if the discomfort is lower down in the oesophagus then discuss with your EP/Doc/nursing team ASAP.
I thought it was protocol for all patients undergoing ablation to take a PPI for 6 weeks to help/avoid oesophageal fistula (well that's what I was told)
I was given a course of Omeprazole following my ablation. I didn't have a TOE during the ablation but the ablation itself is enough to irritate the oesophagus.
Could it possibly be the anesthesia tube down the throat during the procedure? Or perhaps acid reflux? I was prescribed something for acid reflux after my 3 ablations, but didn't need it; apparently, it's a common side effect. Wishing you a speedy recovery after this new "blip."
I didn't have pain as such but had an awful feeling in my oesophagus for many weeks after my ablation, worse still when lying down. I was taking a PPI as prescribed (I believe everyone who has an ablation takes these for 6 weeks). Eventually it settled but I was very worried fir weeks.
