Anyone experienced very cold feet and ankles and they are swelling. Does not matter if I am on my feet most of the day or if I am sitting at my computer for a time. Even in bed at night I am awakened because my feet are so cold. Hot weather - cold weather no difference. when the swelling goes down overnight my ankles are sore in the morning and a slight numbness in my feet. I assume its a circulation issue but could it be caused by medication or something more serious - or even non AFib related. Thanks for any input.

Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker not a beta blocker like Bisoprolol. In some people it can cause fluid retention leading to swollen ankles and feet.
Last year, when I was in hospital, everyone had swollen ankles. Everyone was on water tablets except me. Why was this?
My GP visited the ward most days. He pressed the top of my foot and declared that I didn't need water tablets. Apparently my foot didn't remain indented whereas everyone else's did.
Try to elevate your feet because WATER ALWAYS RUNS DOWNHILL.
I found bisoprolol made my feet and hands so cold they were painful no matter what I was doing. Thick socks and regularly moving them around helped but they still persisted.
Heart problems (like afib) can lead to swollen ankles. I notice very much when I am in afib I often wake up at night with a very bad tingling in my fingers. Numbness too. My hands used to be very cold also.
I always put this down to carpal disease but now I`m not so sure. NSR = no problems V afib = problems. Your heart not beating just right might well be the cause.
Check with your GP but it could a result of afib and/or your med`s. I shouldn't worry to much but worth getting it checked.
Thanks - its been happening for a while and I did not worry too much - but now when they swell sometimes I can hardly walk and getting shoes on well good luck to me for that. LOL
So now I decided its time to do something about it and thought I'd check in here first. Always lots of good advice and info on the site.
Thanks for the response - I did not realize that was a high dose. My blood pressure was not all that bad either when they put me on it. Time to get back to the Dr. and ask some questions I think.
thank you - I am definitly going to take this up with my GP and perhaps request a referral back to the cardiologist who prescribed in the first place . I will post as I proceed.
