Swollen feet and ankles

Hi my feet /ankles are swelling and yet I take 80mg frusemide and 25mg spironactalone , I emailed af nurse who said try 120mg frusemide for a week, it worked but soon as I stopped they swell again.

I swim couple times a week and the swelling disappears for few hours, anyways I’ve went told to go to gp to be referred back to hospital even though I’m not discharged.

Anyone take any other water tablets and have no problem?

Ahh thankyou and has this combination caused you any problems? I worry about changing medication but anything to get my feet normal again want to wear sandals in nice weather.

None at all. At the start was given elastic hosiery etc as my ankles swelled so much little blood vessels burst in my legs. Now, no problems at all.

When I first had the knee high socks I certainly threw all my toys out of the pram. Now they are a thing of the past. 🤞

Hylda, how do you manage to leave the house at all with that amount of diuretic? I take 1mg daily and it takes 4-5 hrs before I can move away from a toilet.

It doesn’t seem to make a lot of difference unfortunately

But you are no longer suffering swollen ankles.

I hate water tablets with a passion my day has to be planned must be a toilet around. I’m going to Cornwall soon long drive from Newcastle so will have to stop at lot service stations.

For that journey I would have to miss a day and double up the next.

I found furosemide 20mg caused more afib , even lasted two days at one point, something I haven’t had since my ablation. Anyone else found this and have an answer for it ?

Hi JaneirI take the same dueretics as you with 40mg of Furosemide. As soon as I stop taking mine, I start to retain fluid. The danger for me is the build up on and around the lungs as I have COPD as well. Some days I take them and they don't seem to work, other days I am barely off the loo! I assume it's because there is no fluid that needs to be removed X take care and stay safe xx

I’m on 80mg plus the spironactalone I find when ankles are bad I’m more breathless (asthmatic too ) also find its worse since I had covid in March .

The lunchtime Bumetanide has only just been added. Johnathan Pitts Crick has done a lot of study on Breathlessness and Fluid Retention.

Like you I take 2 am and 1 lunchtime. The extra 1 seems to make a great difference. My Cardiologist in his wisdom decided for me to take the extra 1 at lunchtime on alternate days. That has made a drastic difference to my breathing, and sleeping at night. So at the moment I'm battling to get my extra tab every day. Also I did change from Furesimide to Bumetanide as I, and my GP thought it stopped working. At present I'm on 12.5 Spironolactone ( half a tab) now being increased to 25mg ( full tab). With Summer on the way I can expect more foot swelling due to heat. So no need to be told to keep feet elevated and be well hydrated.😅. Joking apart it's no fun at all. The water tablets are a God send and me for one, couldn't do without them.

Take care and God bless.

Oh thankyou I’m going to ask about this bumetanide when I ring gps . Getting a appointment is another hassle , you have to ring at half 8 and it’s luck of the draw if you get a slot for GP to ring you as they are not doing normal appointments . Wonder how that will work maybe a FaceTime call to show feet lol.
