IV'e posted something similar before,

Cold feet and hands really get me fed up, see other people walking about with shorts on, and i'm cold with extra layers on and cold feet and fingers, take a blood pressure pill, Carbimazole for thyroid, blood thinner, and a small 40 mg dose of Sotalol, i never felt the cold till started on Drugs, Friend of mine takes blood thinners and he don't feel the cold, any one got any idea what drug is the culprit.

Thanks

I wonder if it could be your carbimazole? My hands and feet used to be freezing when my thyroid was underactive.

Thanks for that, My thyroid is overactive after taking Amiodarone a few year ago, Thinking about it had the cold hands and feet before i started on Carbimazole

Not that then. I just wondered whether it had taken your thyroid function too much the opposite to overactive. Amiodarone made my thyroid underactive.

Amiodarone messes so many peoples thyroids up, nasty drug, have a good Christmas

Hi,I have been on Bisoprolol for nearly 11 years. Sotalol is a kindred spirit, i.e. one of the family of beta blockers designed to reduce and stabilise your heart rate. Back in the day I would suffer from a sudden drop in HR from a neat average of 63 to 67 down to as low as 46. It would cause coldness and affect mainly my hands, fingers, feet and toes. As the years have gone by the drop in heart rate events hardly occurs and nor does the 'coldness'. You do need to read the bit of paper in the packet and as necessary report and discuss this with your GP.

Thanks John, i used to be on Bisoprolol and still had same problems with the cold, my heart rate is steady 48 beats per min

How interesting question! You, actually, take three drugs, each of which can cause poorer blood circulation - for blood pressure, Sotalol and Carbimazole. Which one is to blame? As Jean said, it may be Carbimazole. During a period of time, you had hyperactive thyroid and were prescribed Carbimazole, but the activity of the thyroid gland may change with the time and drop. So, if you have a combination of natural drop in thyroid hormones production with a drug for slowing down thyroid gland, no wonder that you have mentioned problem. Maybe to check thyroid hormones again...

Bisoprolol was the culprit in my case - painful chilblains on my fingers and freezing feet. I wonder in your case if Sotalol and lower thyroid activity together are to blame. Interestingly, since I have been taking Nebivolol, the problem hasn't recurred, so there is no sense to it.

Hi Finvola, had the same problems when i was on Bisoprolol

I too take bisoprolol, and would point towards the beta blocker. I have found that when the cold gets through my nice leather gloves, wearing a pair of cheap silk gloves from China inside them does help. Always wool socks, not any plastic (polyester, acrylic) ones.

Interesting - I was on 10mg Bisoprolol and experienced cold hands with Raynaud's in my index finger and cold feet and lower legs, my feet also turned purple when I stood. (No issue with pulse in ankles ) Since changed to Nebivolol, same dosage but not much change. It's been reduced to 5mg from today so hoping for some improvement

Hi. I too always have freezing hands and feet, particularly feet. I was told by my GP that it is caused by the beta blocker. I take Bisopralol 2.5 every evening. Sue

I think it's probably the sotalol. Cold hands are a recognised side-effect: nhs.uk/medicines/sotalol/When I was on it, it reduced my HR excessively, reduced my exercise capability and didn't stop the AF. It's not recommended now for AF. I got on much better with diltiazem, a calcium channel blocker.

I have a hand warmer which I bought from warmawear. It uses lighter fuel in a catalytic process and gets nice and warm. I can put it inside a bulky glove, but it tends to run a bit short of oxygen. However if you put it in your pocket it stays nice and warm.

Feeling cold even in summer is a classic symptom of hypothyroidism so maybe your Carbimazole has worked a bit too well. The beta blocker would compound this. I would ask for a full thyroid panel- do not let them fob you off with just TSH.

I used to be on Sotolol but was taken off it as it made my Raynauds syndrome much worse and I ended up having iloprost infusions each year. I can no longer have that as it can raise your blood pressure too much so I was put on flecanide. For me there is certainly an improvement since stopping sotolol.
