Feet & Lower leg skin colour changes

Hi All - I am experiencing something new and wondered if you have any insight. Sometimes my feet are pale skin colour but my lower leg, mid calf to just above ankles, is very red - looks sunburned which is is not as I have not been out. there is no pain, heat or numbness, although sometimes feet are very very cold. Anyone else experienced this or have an explanation. I am assuming circulation issue of some sort - but it does not happen every day.

Something to talk to your GP about - & perhaps ASAP? It may be circulation but question is why?

Most GPs seem to be operating Via virtual or telephone appointments.

Best wishes CD

Thanks for answering

Best get it checked out, I know that I am now having problems with Dry Skin and it sometime looks like I have been out in the sun but that is one of the side effects of taking Amiodarone.

Go and see your doc.

I have had a number of issues with my legs - oedema from heart meds such as amlodipine and several bouts of cellulitis (a bacterial infection) . My legs are very colourful.

I'm getting the same! When I get up first thing in the morning my feet are OK but within half an hour my feet and ankles turn purply red and my lower legs are really cold but not painful.. There is no swelling. I'm assuming it has something to do with the medications I am taking. I do exercise my ankles and feet regularly by going up and down on tiptoes to makes sure there is good circulation. Hav'n't been able to see DR or HF nurse but I do intend to bring it up with them. At the moment I think it's a nuisance more than anything. HTH

Hello, like you I have problems with my lower leg to ankle, initially it started with a red rash, no one Docs or nurses knew what it was, sometimes it cleared up if I left my legs bare but warm.

After being discharged from hospital recently my doctor visited me at home because lower legs were swollen and reddish, also my skin was like tissue paper and peeling off like sunburn, she prescribed a very strong antibiotic which did the trick, can’t say my legs are looking young again but passable.

Also for dry skin I found a cream called double base, which is best applied to damp skin, success it works for me.

Costs about £11-00 can be got on prescription.

Good luck nice to know others have similar problems.

That sounds like cellulitis.

No it is not that - definition of that is - "Cellulitis is a common and sometimes painful bacterial skin infection. It may first appear as a red, swollen area that feels hot and tender to the touch." I have no pain, no skin breaks etc. but thanks for the suggestion.

My last bout was in March. It was just a slightly itchy red patch on my thigh but I got the antibiotics and it went away in a few days. I also had a fever two days before. Symptoms vary.

I have Lymphodema sometimes the legs swell up, but they do change colour, the old wives name was grannys tartan, usually caused by immobility. please see your doctor or nurse practitioner.

I am pretty mobile, but it does happen in the evening when I stop moving around so good thought.

Sounds a little like Venous Stasis; ask your GP. Good luck.

My left leg from middle of shin to ankle has been red/ dark pink colour for a few years. Doctors don't seem concerned and they have never said what it is , so as it causes no problems I don't worry about it.

Thanks for the reply. I am not so much worried about it as to curious to what has changed in my body to cause this. It does not cause me pain - but my feet are sometimes "icy" cold and that is very uncomfortable and i wake up at night even with socks on. Just something I would like to understand better and be assured it is not going to get worse. With all that is going on with this virus my small issues are minor.
