Yesterday’s ablation

Thank you to everyone that sent me good wishes for yesterday’s ablation. It really was like déjà vu as it was my fifth visit to the same cath lab in just over 2 years. I had the same anaesthetist that I had for the previous 2 procedures and a lot of the same nurses and technicians so It was like a catch up with old friends.

My EP said that even though it was a touch up he did a lot of burning once again. They had even better technology than they had last time and the pictures my EP showed me on his phone were quite amazing. I’ve had a headache and last night had the zigzagging ocular aura (last time it was 3 or 4 days before that showed up). Once again my oesophagus feels quite inflamed and it hurts to breathe deeply. A physio has been in and given me breathing exercises to do each hour for the next two weeks. I’m looking forward to having a good sleep in my own bed tonight hopefully. It was hard to sleep last night with all the monitors, a drip, BP checks every 2 hours, a doctor coming to take blood at 4.45 then another blood test around 6.30.

I’ve had lunch(turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, peas and cauliflower cheese, followed by a pineapple mousse). I’m waiting for the ward doctor to come and see me again soon. She’ll let me know if I can go home this afternoon.

Here’s a photo of my view. If you look closely between the trees you can see one of the city buildings (the city is 16 km away)

Sincerely hope it works! I like your tree-lined view. I’m not too fussed about oracular auras, however. Very disorienting. Here’s to a speedy recovery.

Thanks - I meant to say that so far so good with the heart

Stupid autocorrect. That should have been “ocular” auras. Oracular ones might be all right.

Thank you and yes, the hospital food is really good here. And the staff are amazing- I always feel very well cared for.

Glad it seems to have gone well.

Don’t forget that to give it the best chance you must now rest as much as you can in the next couple of weeks.

Glad it all went well Kaz. You'll be as much a veteran as myself soon. It's nice when you know what to expect and do though. Well done.

Indeed. My EP said yesterday when he saw me after the ablation “I don’t want to see you in the cath lab again”. I told him that I didn’t want to see him there either ever again 😃

I'm pleased to hear that all went well Kaz. How are you feeling today, apart from slightly sore?

Jean

Kaz747 profile image
Kaz747 in reply tojeanjeannie50

Not too bad at the moment Jean. My heart is beating beautifully. My worst pain has been my my oesophagus- as long as I don’t end up with gastritis (or pericarditis) like last time I’ll be happy.

jeanjeannie50 profile image
jeanjeannie50 in reply toKaz747

Will keep my fingers crossed for you Kaz and wish you a speedy recovery. Perhaps just eat soft food for while to allow your oesophagus to heal. x

I’m having homemade pumpkin soup for dinner (I made and froze some last week).

Really pleased it's going well and you renewed 'old' friendships! I was 'looking' out for your progress due to the March 29 'link'. I'm glad you didn't get 'bumped' like we have been! Keep well.

Yes - I see it’s “no deal”. I saw a few funny cartoon today. I’ll have to see if I can find it and share it.

You are describing exactly my ablation three weeks ago. Home cooked food helps as well as your own bed. Make sure you are a couch potato for ten days.

Pleased to hear you're through it and have plans for the recovery. Wishing you all the best as always x

Wow Fifth in two years and I thought three ablations in two years was a lot. Seems to be I remember you writing about your previous ablation- when was that?

Wishing you to be well soon

Kaz747 profile image
Kaz747 in reply toTantaanna

Thank you. It was only 4 ablations. The other time in the cath lab was for a planned ablation and I was knocked out and my EP cut into my groin, ready to go but then the cardiologist overseeing the transoesophageal echocardiogram said “no stop, there’s a blood clot”. So I was brought around and sent home for a few weeks whilst the clot dissolved.

I missed this post or I would've wished you well. Really hope this ablation is a success. You had a busy post 'op' night. I was left alone. Although at 02.00 went to the loo, looked at my phone and started a 2hr messaging stint with my daughter in Oz. (We have a group chat and my husband woke up to see 120 messages!! 😂) She's on the Gold Coast where do you live?

Hope you're feeling ok.

Love the BTTF/Brexit picture, v funny.

Kaz747 profile image
Kaz747 in reply toAIW58

Yes it was a busy night. I’m feeling pretty good today, far better than after my last ablation. I’m in Perth. Your daughter lives in a lovely part of Oz.

AIW58 profile image
AIW58 in reply toKaz747

Oh good glad to know you're feeling ok. She finds the GC climate a bit too much in the summer but enjoys her job and has friends there so reluctant to move.

Hope your recovery continues smoothly

So glad all went well Kaz. Your hospital food and after care sounds a lot better than where I had my 3 ablations. Lovely view as well. Take care.

Kaz747 profile image
Kaz747 in reply toRedders

Thank you. The food is great there. My EP said I’d be his VIP patient that day and I think I was given the best room in the CCU. The CCU and ICU were quieter than I’ve ever seen them so the nurses, doctors and catering staff were very attentive. We had some wonderful conversations.

Hey Kaz,

I read also your other posts.

So this was your 5th, but your 4th ablation? 1 SVt, 1 MAT, 1 Atrial flutter and now 1 Afib? And always under GA, except the one where they didn’t ablate, the first SVt was the one under sedation?

I hope this will be your last one and that you indeed you will never have to see a cath lab again 👍🤗.

Kaz747 profile image
Kaz747 in reply toavma

Yes - 5 times in the cath lab. One time, when they didn’t ablate anything, was because they found a blood clot in my heart. The first ablation for SVT was under sedation. That was a horrid experience and wasn’t successful - the EP said it was too dangerous to continue after 4 hours and that we’d try again in 6 months. The next 3 ablations were under GA. Now 3 days after the last ablation I’m feeling great.

avma profile image
avma

So you had 3 successful ablations for 3 different arrhythmia: svt, mat and atrial flutter and all under GA. Nice!

And now the 4th one for afib also under GA and you’re feeling good so soon after the ablation, then surely this one will be a success too! 👍. You have a great EP!

And all this was in a period of time of 1 year or 2 years?
