Apple watch

Saw My intragrative doc yesterday, who actually gives me more info than my cardiologist!! My a fib seems to have retreated, coming up on 1 yr anniversary. Doc is more concerned about inflammation, calcium buildup in my big arteries in heart, etc. ( potential heart attack data)

Ive been on an exercise, wt loss mission but now he wants me to go low carb, eat mostly veggies, not a lot of fruit. He suggested I get an Apple watch for a fib detection. Im in the US, and right now they are way out of my budget. Im curious if any of you have the newest one and do you like it? Im impressed that it has a fall detection mode and if you fall and it senses no movement, it will call emergency response I think.

I have an older Apple Watch but it doesn't allow the irregular notifications in the UK. It was actually the sleep feature that alerted me to a potential arrhythmia as I wasn't aware of anything until I looked at sleeping heart rate. I'd say go for it when your budget allows. Long may your a fib stay away and the weight keep coming off. I'm loving the Doctor' Kitchen and Food Medic recipes. Take care xx

I have the Apple watch 4 in the UK.

I wear it overnight so that it can tell me when my pacemaker packs up (last time the pacemaker was in "low power mode" for 9 months - and I felt rough!

What and where is the "sleep feature"?

I have to tell HRV4training when I fall asleep each day... and it would be nice if the watch would tell me - or tell Strava.

I am looking forward to getting the ECG and notifications here in the UK - but they have been authorised and activated in the USA.

I have had many false notifications of falls - just have to tell it that I am OK, and did not fall.

I have downloaded the AutoSleep app and it tells you when you fall asleep, quality of sleep and heart rate when paired with the watch.

Thanks... Yes, I too now have it - and used it last night.

Almost too much data to get my head round... as with other health apps, - I think the benefit comes when you can look back over weeks and months of data.

It does not seem to write data into the Health app (for HRV4training)... is there something I have not configured?

Hi. It's an app called Auto Sleep. There are a few I've tried but I like this one best, Sue x

thankyou for the kind thoughts💜👍🏻

I have the latest Apple Watch, but as yet in the U.K. we haven’t got the ecg app for it. The fall detection sounds good, but so far it has come on playing with my great-grandchildren and pumping up pillows. Always scared I won’t notice it and deactivate it.

I’ve had an Apple Watch for 2 years. I bought it in Boston, USA, but we live in UK. I do not think that the heart rate is all all accurate on the heart app.

Far more useful, is the Kardia on the back of an iPhone, which will record an EKG. Unfortunately, I rarely get a reading, as my HR is frequently below 50 . Medically on a Kardia, I do not Exist!

If you are a news junkie, like me then you will really like the ⌚️ Apple Watch.

The AF function is not available in the UK so cannot comment but I have a 3 version and love it.

Good luck with the low carb diet - I’ve been following a low carb eating plan for about 12 months now and have lost 15lbs in that time. It comes off very gradually but steadily and although it is an adjustment which take time to get used to, I feel much better.

I have the Apple 4 Watch and bought it for the EKG feature. (In US) It works great! I have had two episodes of AFib. The first time they shocked me back into rhythm. Went almost two years and had another episode...from trying to do a low carb diet. We were able to use meds to bring me back into rhythm. I bought the watch the next day to monitor any irregular heart beats. It picks up my heart murmur and any excelleration in beats. I compared all the gadgets out there and while the Apple Watch is expensive, it was rated with a high level of accuracy.

The article below discusses a study done with the Apple Watch and another brand.

With all this talk, my husband insisted we go buy an apple watch last evening! Happy Birthday to me. Twice I ran the ekg just playing with it. Even though I knew I was not it a fib, it was comforting to see it say normal sinus rhythm. I dont take daily rhythm drugs, only pip. Now at least I can feel more reassured that Im not having any silent a fib

Enjoy! I found lots of apps for the watch. The activity tracker is great too. 😊

Re Calcium build up, you may find more magnesium helps to reduce the calcium; evidently one can block the other and vice versa.

that is interesting! I take 400 mg daily, I will see how much is top dose.

Hello, I am also in the US. I have the Apple Watch 4 and absolutely love it. My cardiologist just publish an article about how he endorses it. It gives me a piece of mind.
