Apple 5 watch

Does anyone have experience with the Apple five watch and the ECG? I’m considering buying one they are very expensive so I’m wondering if it’s worth it? I’d like to know if my heart is in a fib and this feature sounds great and my cardiologist recommended it. Does anyone have experience positive or negative they could share? Thanks.

I have an Apple Watch 5. I also have an alivecor Kardia. The watch is great in that you can get an instant ECG, heart rate and lots of other information , like walking speed and how far you’ve walked/run etc. Unfortunately you have to have an Apple phone to get all the information. This makes the watch an expensive item. If you only want to record AFib/ heart rate I would buy the 6 lead Kardia. (£150) I have the (£99) single lead ( adequate) kardia. I am 71 and not technical at all! Good luck to you.

You don't need an expensive iPhone to go with your Apple Watch 5. A second hand iPhone 6s and up is all you need. You can get them on ebay or you may know someone who has upgraded and still has their old phone. My son gave his old iPhone 6 to his nephew to go with his Series 4 watch.

I should have stated that I do have an iPhone.

I have a series 4 watch with the ecg facility. Very pleased with it. I believe Fitbit have a similar App on their watch now too. I use mine with a 6s plus phone.

I looked at that but I think the Fitbit has got more general information which works with the Cardiogram app but it doesn't have an ECG. I am going to look at that app to see how it displays my watch data. At the moment I am downloading all my health data to a .zip file and it is taking a very long time!

I have a Samsung Fitbit. It is connected to my phone app. It records my HR 24/7 And shows the ECG as well. I have Moderate LVSD/moderate HF and possibly Brugada so it is important I can see the pattern as I can go into SCA. I bought it on EBay reconditioned I have had it 6 months and it is still working fine. I paid £17. It is one or two beats off the pulse Oximeter but then they go into sync.

I have an Apple Watch and an Apple phone. I like the watch because I can see what my heart rate is at as I am in persistent Afib. E.g. It helps me to determine what my heart rate is when my chest hurts (When it goes high)or why I feel drained (when it goes low). The ECG tells me that I am in Afib but since I am in persistent Afib it shows it. A great thing about the watch though it records all the health information in your phone and you can forward it to your doctor or specialist so they can see the fluctuations. If it is set up right there is much more information it can record about your health. Have someone explain all it can do and set up the watch to record your preference. I have no experience with the Kardia machine so don’t know how they compare.

Hi, I was diagnosed in 2018 with dilated cardiomyopathy, my symptoms I was having for years had been atrial fibrillation. My cardiologist recommended Kardia band. This was my life saver until apple watch. Highly recommend getting the watch, this gave my cardiologist the information they needed to confirm atrial fibrillation and we use the reports at each meeting to see how I am doing overall. Kardia band is great if you don't want to spend lots of money on the apple watch and it does the same thing. You can't buy the band new anymore but could possibly second hand. But if your happy to spend the money the iwatch series 4 is what I have and it's been great. Iwatch strap is much more comfortable too.

All the best. Take care.

Yes, I can recommend the sports loop too. Have been wearing my watch every day for a year and a half.
