Bruise under chin

I have developed a small bruise beneath my chin. On checking the causes, anticoaculation seems to be the most obvious culprit. I take Apixaban twice daily and recently added Ubiquinol to the magnesium and vit.D I have been using. I’m going to stop all supplements to see if I can lose the bruise.

Anyone had any similar experiences or suggestions?

My thought are that you might be thinking too deeply about that one small bruise. I get inexplicable bruises pop up and I’m not on anticoagulants.

It can be several days after a little knock or a bit of extra pressure to an area and a bruise appearing. All kinds of daily insignificant incidents occur but not realised at the time. I think realistically this is your most likely cause.

I wouldn’t stop your supplements for one small bruise. That bruise will fade over a week or so regardless of stopping them or not.

If you have other unexplained bruises popping up then think again.

It’s not the first time, and always in the same place. Doesn’t fade like a normal bruise, just disappears.

Hi Peddling, I had a similar experience a few days after I had a wisdom tooth removed. Because I was due to go abroad, I (reluctantly) had it checked out in A&E and was assured that it was nothing to worry about.....sure enough, it faded and disappeared after a week or so.....obviously if you are concerned, it might be sensible to have it checked, best wishes, John

I’m in a similar situation, leaving for the canaries on Tuesday. Can I be bothered to go to the GP, don’t think so. Just slap on the concealer!

I have occasionally had a "mark" appear on my forehead....not a bruise, looks more like a large dark freckle.......the first time it alarmed me (my boss at the time...a nursing sister, said "oh you have probably had a small bleed!") My GP said she didn't know what it was!!

It disappeared after a couple of days...I have put it down to Warfarin , of course.

It happened again recently, this time, I was more fed up than alarmed.....as it was just something else I must try not to worry about!!

Yes, they mount up don’t they. Reassuring to know it’s not just me.

I get a number of small bruises which I just ignore. It’s easy to knock yourself without even realising but because of the anticoagulant are more likely to bruise. You should have seen my arm when I fell down a few step recently, shoulder to elbow bruise but it cleared up by itself given time. I wouldn’t worry too much. I wouldn’t change taking your supplements if I were you although that’s just my opinion.

Thank you Brenda, I’m just going to withdraw for a few days and then resume Cq 10. Not sure about the magnesium either, or rather this particular brand.

Hi Peddliing,

yes I am almost certain that the bruise which you are describing sound like a hematoma caused by the anti coagulant and the Ubiquinol additive effect.

I develop these type of bruises from time to time due to my blood thinner Brilinta.

I would stop the Ubiquinol (Omega 3 + Co Q10)

The bruise will go away in about 10 days.A warm compress under the chin ,held for a few minutes will help to dissolve the hematoma faster.

Take care.

Thank you, it’s actually smaller today. 2days without Ubiquinol.
