apixaban and less bruises ?

bigbearatthecave profile image

Is this normal ?

I used to bruise more before I took Apixaban, but since being on Apixaban I have had no bruises at all - which for me working in my workshop etc is odd

Is this good luck or something else ?

Or should I stop thinking !!!!

That's an interesting question bigbear.

I think people on DOAC's like Apixaban still have blood checks, not sure if it's once or twice a year but I dont think the clotting of blood comes into the check. Someone should be along soon to give you advice soon. I'm still on Warfarin. Now that I've replied to you I'm sure others will.

Blood checks came back ok on my Annual check well weird or what ?

I am not complaining as working on old land rovers and steam engines I thought the opposite would be true

Some people do and others don’t. I used to bruise really easily, I’ve not noticed much of a difference since taking DOACs for the last 10 years but I also get much fewer knocks as I’m not throwing myself around in a racing dinghy! Just had a dialogue with GP about my husband and bruising with DOACs as he used to bruise really easily - GP suggested ensuring he moisturise and we have found moisturising daily really helps keep the skin supple and since doing so has noticed much less bruising on hands and forearms.

Don’t think I have checks on Apixaban. I had an unbelievable massive bruise with haematoma in June curtesy of Apixaban 😵‍💫

I noticed that I began to bruise easily in my late 50s early 60s, working as an electrician. This was prior to being on medication. I still bruise easily post medication; back of my hands mostly, doesn't take much of a knock.

I bruise occasionally with Apixaban but when on flecainide and clopidogrel I bruised a lot more.

well I must admit that i definitely bruise more on my anticoagulant. You’re either lucky or perhaps query with your doctor if you’re worried. I suspect many people don’t bruise.

Maybe you are being more careful on a subconscious level.🤷🏻‍♀️

I have always bruised really easily. It’s a family joke to ask me where I got a bruise because I’ll have no idea. So I was nervous going on Apixaban but I do bruise less! It’s weird!

You can get blood test for that as there are conditions that cause bruising

I have very little, basically "normal" bruising. Name brand Eliquis works great for me. Sadly they charge a lot. Over $500 for a 30 day supply here in the States. Needless to say, I usually hit my full deductible.

$500 a month?? Are Eliquis better than generic brands of apixaban?

I just double checked with GoodRX. $627 for 60 tablets (30days). They do not offer a generic brand. Some wonder why our insurance is so expensive...

It’s shocking, what can poor folks with no or little insurance do? I doubt Mr Trump will make it easier. Are people actually left to fall ill and die?

I found I bruised more with Eliquis than wirh Xeralto. I was originally on Xeralto but read that Eliquis was better for AF, so changed to it, but I found it gave me heartburn so went back on Xeralto and notice I have less bruising. I have always since childhood, been an easy bruiser, I always joke if someone breathes heavily on me I will bruise !
