Ache in throat
Hi Chryseliz yes I have a strange aching sensation in my throat during bad episodes of AF, I think it is quite a common thing.
Thank you doodle68 for replying.I was pleased to hear that what I was experiencing is usual. I was having an episode when I wrote the post. It lasted 3 hours which was a reief as its usually much longer. It finished with a feeling of darkness descending (which I have had before) then as though my heart had stopped, then restarted with thud, and then a hot rush through my body then all was calm again.I was back NSR . I hope this is usual too.
Hi Chryseliz , I get a sensation of heaviness around my throat , no ache or pain just a kind of pressure .
Thank you for your reply. It's nice to be able to ask .advice from others on this site. Such a comfort.
Not in my throat but I ache across the back of my neck into my shoulders
I get quite a bad pain in the left side of my neck, sometimes spreading round the back of my neck, but it improves if I take Verapamil.
Hi, when I was having a bad episode I used to get a cramping pain in my throat, have had two Ablations and the second one seems to have worked. It is good to get support and advice from each other cos we do wonder at times is that normal. Hope that helps. Fiona
Yes, a feeling of pressure or choking at the base of my throat is one of my first signs of an AF episode.
Yes I am the same a sort of fullness in the throat area. The other thing I notice is I start to sweat around my neck and that is a clear indication of the onset of Afib.
Likewise! I feel a sensation across my throat, upper chest area, almost like having the catheter ablation procedure again, but not as strong. And then I think, oh no! It is best not to relate this to other people (that do not have AFib) as they think I am, either being negative, or being pessimistic, when actually, there is nothing I can do about it.
I tried to ignore it the other day but ended up 3 hours later seeing a First Aider (I was out and about), who called an ambulance. By the time they got me in the ambulance, my heart had calmed down and the ECG showed (and I felt) my heart was back in sinus rhythm! Maybe the ambulance team - 3 of them - calmed me down, they are BRILLIANT!
Thank you all for your replies, very helpful. When I mentioned the ache in my throat to my cardiologist she said it sounded like Angina. I now have a spray to use but NOT while I'm in AF? My GP said I could use it when in AF but I have'nt used it yet due to the different opinions. Wishing you all well. Chris
I get a fluttering feeiling up my neck. Only for a few minutes. My consulant told me I had heartburn or a stomachs issue!
A logical explanation may be we have the carotid artery and a carotid pulse in our neck/throat part of the pathway carrying blood to our brains . If the blood supply is altered in some way for example during atrial fibrillation it is not really surprising if we feel an 'echo' of what is happening in our hearts in our throat.
The feeling I get is similar to that described as 'getting a lump in the throat' when we are trying to hold back an emotion and not cry. It's a painful ache .
I've experienced the ache in my throat/neck and in my chest especially when I take a deep breath. At first, I blamed it own exercise. Seemed like every time I would do a chest exercise, I would experience the sensation the next day. I have since stopped doing chest workouts, however, the other day, I experienced the same sensation. I believe stress brings it own for me. It is a VERY unpleasant feeling for sure.
I had an episode last week and felt this ache on the left side of my throat. Almost like a strained muscle. This is the first time for me, nice to know I'm not alone too.
I could always feel my AF in my throat! Glad to know I wasn't the only one!
