My knees and ankles are very painful but I do not take bisoprolol and I know it is arthritis. Have you spoken to your doctor as it could be unconnected.

My joints ache more in warm weather, and are at their worst when the weather is changeable!!!

Hi Flossie isn’t it strange ??? I’m definitely going to check with my GP !

I'm on Bisoprolol but have never connected it to arthritic pain. Does wonders for my heart though. I have osteoarthritis in various joints and although this dry weather improves things it does not always work like that.

I have found if humidity rises to around 85% up to 95% ACCOMPANIED by a fall in barometric pressure to say 900 mB then the pain in all affected joints dramatically increases. Even in dry weather there can be minor weather related variations which increases the pain.

Hi thank you for your reply!!! It has been humid here today and my knees and elbows were really sore when I was walking - it’s very strange hate taking painkillers but in this instance I had too !

I too am on Bisoprolol- have been for a couple of years and until recently no joint aches at all. But in the past 3 months or so my legs, particularly behind the knees and up my shins, have started aching really badly, especially at night. My arms, particularly my left arm also hurts from time to time. Because it comes and goes I’m not sure it is arthritis and think there could be a Bisoprolol connection. Am seeing GP shortly so will discuss.

My knees have played up the last six months....I’ve nit thought about it being the tablets....thought it was age, body getting creaky, maybe arthritis.......haven’t a clue really....could it be bisoprolol....hard to say....

Thanks morzine I didn’t have theses aches before !!! I wondered if there is a connection with beta blockers??? It seems worse when i walk to work especially if it is warm !!!

Hi are you on blood thinner too?

I’m on Rivaroxiban and I seem to have developed Osteoarthritis in both knees and sometime at night my elbows really ache too.

Just wondered.

Thanks Steve !! I have been walking everywhere doing 10 thousand steps a day and I think it is helping I don’t get breathless as much and I definitely feel a lot better!!

I came across a note I had written to myself some time in the past, to the effect that Beta blockers can block CoQ10 in the body, so taking a supplement would be beneficial. Lack of CoQ10 can lead to aches and pains in the muscles (statins have the same effect). Co Q10 is good for the heart, so taking a supplement could be helpful all round.

Hi polski I have placed a order for coQ10 can it be taken with magnesium?? Thanks Eileen

I dont recall what the exact wording was, but I was told that there is a deep connection between Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and AF. I developed RA the year before I was diagnosed with AF... Just amazing how this body can get out of sorts.

Hi Bambi yes I agree a earlier post suggested co Q10 I’m just about to order some to see if that helps !! What with AF and the tiredness that comes with it i definitely do not want anything else !!!!!

Warfarin was the one that made my joints ache but you are evidently not on it.

Hi Seasider I was on apixaban but due to age !! I’m 61 and Chad score 1 they took me off it until I’m 65 then I have to go back on it !

Reverse ageism !! Perhaps by then Watchman or Amplatzer amulet will be more available and cost effective. I had the amplatzer fitted privately two years ago.

Hi I have also had problems with aches and pains in my joints...I found it was the statin I was on I have changed it to a different one and lower dose.

Hope this helps x

Hi, I too am on bisoprolol, last summer I noticed that every joint in my body ached all the time. This was just after my GP had upped the medication from 2.5 to 5. I mentioned this he refused to lower the dose. Then when I visited the Cardiologist in May he changed the dose to 3.75. Saying that he expected my heart rate to go up and with that the dose would have to go back up.

The ache in my joints lessened but was still there.

Recently I was scheduled for an ablation. I was told to not take bisoprolol for 6 days before the procedure. The ache disappeared.

Unfortunately the ablation was cancelled due to machinery breakdown and I had to retake the bisoprolol. Ache in joints came back.

The reason for me coming off the bisoprolol was to get it out of my system and to change it for a different one

Funnily enough I had a lot of pain in my elbows on 2.5mg bisoprolol. Dropped to 1.25mg in agreement with my doctor and pains disappeared!
