Bruising

I have been on Apixaban for two years with no problems but now I find I am covered in bruises. I have never bruised easily could there be a reason for this?

Most anticoagulants give you some form of bruising I'm on apixiban and I hate it ! Just makes me so ill glad you are ok on it 😐

If it's really making you ill, then you could try a different NOAC - they all have different effects on different people. The first one I tried made me feel ill, but the new one I've changed to is fine so far. If you want to change, you can check with your GP or cardio about how to do this.

I agree wit Bb53 - I'm pretty sure all anticoagulants will cause you to bruise more easily than normal. However, if you are really "covered in bruises" and or you seem to be bruising for no reason then I would be concerned. My advice would be to speak to your GP / nurse or EP as soon as possible. I was on apixaban for about a year and had no issues like this .....

Hope you get sorted !

I've only been on it for nine months but so far I have had no side effects at all, touch wood. I wouldn't know I was on it to be honest. I think the main thing is to get medical advice in case there is another cause.

Hi souljacs4, I was on apixaban after my ablation and bruised really easily. I also had a load of thread veins appear around the same time. If you've been on it for a while and they are just starting to appear you maybe should talk to your GP and have it recorded in your notes. You might need a blood check and/or the dosage adjusted.

Hi soulacs4, l have been on apixaban for 6 months now and touch wood, l have not had any problesm so far. Maybe you should talk to your GP and review the dosage or get a referral to see a consultant to do further blood test to find out cause of bruising. Goodluck

I bruised easily in the first months. Nothing to speak of now. I've been on it not quite a year. Someone mentioned veins appearing? I have thought I have more spider veins than before. I'll have to investigate this.
