Loud heart beat
Hi higgy52
I think it's an Ectopic heartbeat, about 2 months ago I posted about ectopic heartbeats and many people had the same experience as mine. They even posted a link to Dr Sanjay Gupta a cardiologist that made a video about it, because he also suffers from it.
Ectopic means "wrong place" so the heart beat is just a few milliseconds to early, and then it feels "hard".
It can also have something to do with your vagus nerve.
I think it's best if you go to that post of mine and see all the comments and the video link, or also search ectopic, PAC or PVC.
I also wrote a blog post about it on my own site.
Many people have also said that they felt stupid when talking about it to their doctor because they do not always pick it up.
Hope this helped.

Hi,
Same as Jean and Bob musical sounds also with increasing hearing loss..
Soon after developing AF and following Ablation diagnosed with MES ( musical ear syndrome) which is constant playing of tunes in head.

It's quite common to hear your heartbeat in your ears. I get it sometimes and I agree it's annoying! However, I've been getting it on and off since 2005 and I'm still here to tell the tale so I would assume its just one of those things and harmless. I don't think anyone knows the cause. It was discussed recently on this forum, I believe it was in the last week or so.
Type ear into the search area on the top right of this page and press return, it will throw up old posts.

I have svt and palpitations, awaiting an ablation. I can hear my heart thumping in my head when i sleep, sometimes my heart beats so strongly my whole body thumps in time especially my chest.
No, it's not a nice feeling when your heart feels as though it's trying to get out of your chest.
Pulsetile tinnitus when you hear you heart in your ears is quite common for us AFers even after ablation. I know it can be distracting especially when you are trying to sleep but one must be strong and tune it out of conciousness or you will be a slave to it. I liken it to the dreaded ear worm when somebody hums a tune just as you are about to go to bed and it goes round and round forever till you want to get up and strangle the person who was humming for setting it off.
I get this quite a lot especially in bed. I find trying to listen to my breath going in and out is a good distraction from the heart sound.
I put the television on low volume and timer to distract me until I drift off to sleep.
Relaxation tape may help you forget about it!!
Don't worry, I had my abation in Aug 2015 and this also happened to me as well as a faster resting heart beat..... between 92-94 beats a min for almost 8 months as it slowly went down to 68 bpm now. I could hear my heart when ever I was in bed, and I didnt like to lie on my left side..... it all subsides as your anxiety goes away and you realize you are going to be ok. I have had NO afib for over a year now, and I do not take any medication........but did take for 4 months after my ablaion..... So please breath deep, try to relax and not worry as this is all normal.

I had my ablation in April 2016 and I do still get this on occasion. EP said it was extra beats causing it but my rhythm sounds normal. Mine seems to be linked to eating too late or having something sweet too close to bedtime. Realize that it is not dangerous so my EP said and you won't notice it as much. If it is bugging me, I read to distract my mind until I get sleepy enough to drift off.
I am almost 3 months post ablation (May 20). I was placed on ameodarone for 3 months too as I was in constant a fib following ablation. My heart has been beating faster than normal and I am very aware of it for about 2 weeks now.
Can't wait to get this amiodarone out of my system. Have had any problems with it.

I get those symptoms too. I play seashore sound waves off Y-tube to help block out the pounding so I don't lead it to go into an anxiety. It helps me drift off to sleep. Another remedy is to sleep with a fan on all night. I hope these techniques help you.
