I have terrible pins and needles and burning pains in my hands and arms from taking Crestor 10mg day. It keeps me awake at night. Is it possible to manage cholesterol adequately without taking statins?

Diet can help but it depends what your numbers are like.
Couldn't take it, in fact, I can't really tolerate any statins. I have the opinion that our bodies NEED a certain amount of cholesterol. As long as it's not sky high readings.
Thanks for that. Im going to look into the alternative options.
The first step is to contact your doctor. It shouldn't be having that effect. Statins are not suitable for everyone.
That said, they block the body's pathways which make CoQ10, a substance we should make and all need. Anyone taking statins should therefore be taking CoQ10. Without it, muscle pain is common.
Some cardiologists like statins because they also help to decrease inflammation, which is believed to help the heart.
Yes - some cholesterol is essential, and some will argue that cholesterol is not the danger it is believed to be. Try searching the internet, and decide if you wish to believe the drug companies (cholesterol is bad, statins are good) or the alternative practitioners (cholesterol is good, statins are bad) or if you choose to agree with your doctor (some cholesterol is bad, and I wish to get rid of it). The choice is yours - but read first and then discuss your particular problems with your doctor . . . and don't take statins if you have liver problems (There are other contra-indications too)
Healthy eating can increase your good cholesterol and decrease the bad (Yes - there are two types), so look for the details of an appropriate diet and you may be able to lower your cholesterol readings successfully without drugs.
Thanks for the info. I'll look into the alternative options.
I just got my cholesterol test results and my total cholesterol is 4.0. I hope to get off statins and keep it down with diet and benecol/plant sterols.
