Hi Pamela are you sure it's the flacinide that's causing your weight gain.I myself have been taking the same medication and dose for the past nine months if any thing I have lost a couple of pounds.I think like others the medication for this curse effects us all differently.

If you haven't already I would go and see an experienced nutrionist. We are all different of course but I have taken the same dose of Flecainide for 3 years and have put no weight on. I haven't heard of 'tru vision' but I am a sceptic when it comes to 'diets'. We have followed the Weston A Price approach which is not so much a diet as just eating the food your granny used to eat i.e. high quality clean unprocessed food. We have done this for 5+ years and I am back to the weight I was when I was 18yo. Good luck.

I have put a bit of weight on since AF but never thought of it being flecainide. In my case it is because in spite of keeping busy I indulge in less calorie burning activity. A healthy diet, fewer "empty" calories and smaller portions is an easy alternative if you feel the need to lose weight.

I lost weight when I was taking flecainide. I took 150mgs x 2 per day.

It is good to maintain a healthy weight with AF so well done you for taking this step. I think the only mention in the Flecainide notes was that dairy may reduce its effectiveness, but have a read up. Good luck!

I have been taking Flecainide 2x50mg bd since being diagnosed 12 years ago. I needed to lose a couple of stone and joined weight watchers to lose it. Have lost the weight and any small gain I have is through overeating and not the Flecainide. Please be careful with any diet or food programme. I would get advice from your doctor especially if this is an extreme programme. Weight watchers and Slimming World are both endorsed by doctors/NHS and you can get it on prescription

Will have to look into the dairy aspect starry eyes as haven't heard about that.

I took 150mgs x 2 a day for 10 years. It didn't cause weight gain for me. Easiest way I've found to lose weight is to eat healthily- fruit and veg, plus oily fish in my case, and no wheat. Wheat bread is just too easy to eat; rye pumpernickel and rye crispbreads and rice cakes are what I eat now.

Hello Pamela :-) isn't 'Tru vision' diet pills?

Personally I would avoid any 'diets' and follow the AF guidelines on nutrition which will help you body to cope with the condition and the medication.

I have now lost 10lk since May by moderating my lifestyle permanently and eating recommended foods and amounts.

I think there are no easy steps to weight loss and maintaining that loss, it is about adopt an attitude of mind and telling oneself our health is more important than eating all the things we would like to eat.

I'm the same with regards to flecanide, i gained some poundage, but I take a beta blocker as well. I've tried alsorts to lose the weight, but to no avail yet. Cycling is ok but up to you.

I don't take anything other then my flecainide. And I called my Dr and told him these pounds has got a go.I haven't been on it long and gained 20 pounds.but this diet I want to do proves that you loose weight and can get off you're meds.I have not been in Afib in over a year and no problems what so ever.

Looking at the ingredients of tru vision, I wonder if they are right for those of us who have Afib. They contain Caffeine which can often set off Afib and some of the other ingredients are stimulants which is not a good idea for us. I'm not on flecainide but take an assortment of meds for Heart failure and AF and I know I've put on weight because I can't exercise like I used to. I'm trying to eat the right foods and smaller quantities but it's hard. I would take the ingredients list to your doctor and see what he thinks. That would be much safer.

Try reading 'the Scandinavian belly fat program' by Berit Nordstrand'. It is very well researched and referenced, with a comprehensive overview of how nutrition works, the damaging effects of highly refined and modified food products on your body, and the deficiencies that happen as a result of over processed food. It also gives you a 12 week program to follow, along with a stack of recipes to help you change your way of eating and your way of life. It is very readable and thought provoking. My wife said 'what are you doing buying a food book' and then promptly nicked it and I am having a hard time getting it back. Such is life.

Pamela, I agree with many of the other replies. I have been on 2 x 100mg of Flecainide for three years and have actually lost weight through healthy eating. I would suggest the Pioppi Diet by Aseem Malhotra, a cardiologist or Eat Fat, Get Thin by Mark Hyman. These are basically Mediterranean diets which are based on lots of vegetables, healthy fats (oils, nuts, avocados) and fish. I have found this style of eating very effective in losing and then maintaining a healthy weight. Good luck, Sam

I would have your thyroid checked before you go on any diet as your weight gain doesn’t sound normal.

However as you are determined to try it, it would be interesting to hear how you get on.
