Completed five days of taking flecainide. I’ve been told it will take 1 to 2 weeks for my body to adjust. Right now I’m not sure I want to continue taking it as it just makes me too weak not quite as alert as I should be, and overall just not well. Of course I will contact my doctor.

But I was just wondering if any of you have experienced similar reaction at the onset of taking flecainide.?

When I first started on 50mg x 2 I had to reduce the amount back to 25mg x 2 for a couple of weeks and then gradually increase up to 50mg x 2 over the next two weeks.

I was feeling quite nauseous but once it was reduced I coped quite well .

My Dr rang the cardiologist and that was his recommendation.

Good morning. I seem to remember it took about 4 weeks to get used to Flecainide and Bisoprilol - I had the same advice to reduce the dose for a couple of weeks plus the dose of Bisoprolol was reduced to 1.25mg. It did eventually settle down and I’m happy to remain on Flecainide as things stand now as I get very few breakthrough episodes at the moment although I suspect it is responsible for my sudden hearing loss!! Hope this helps!

I think it can take a few weeks for your body to adjust.

I was started on 50mg twice a day then increased to 100mg twice a day. For me it has worked wonders although we are all different.

I think you are doing the right thing contacting your doc. Maybe he / she will suggest lowering the dose or continuing for a week or so to see if things improve.

Personally though I have found flex to be highly effective once it 'kicks in'.

Good luck.

Paul

That's good news that Fec. has helped you! Time will tell with me. Your reply was helpful. Thanks a lot.

75mg 2x and 1.25mg Bis. I had a low grade head ache for about a year and a half and it still leaves me feeling like I just donated a couple of pints of the red stuff. I prefer this, which has kept my afib at bay, to progressing to constant AFib. I'd say talk to your doc but give it a couple of weeks and re-access.

I definitely will be consulting with doctor It is helpful to see how others are or have handled taking Fec. Thank you for your reply.

Just a quick check first, are you taking it at least 3 hrs after eating something and then after swallowing not eating for a further hour. When I started on 200mgs/day, coupled with all the anxiety, tests, appointments, I did not feel anything like right for 3 months. Also, I don't remember the time line exactly but in the early days I felt I couldn't manage walking up even small inclines or even shortish walks - much improved now.

Have not been told anything about when to take Fec. in relationship to food. Had no idea it made a difference. 3 months is a long time to not feel right, but good to hear that you are much improved. its encouraging. Thank you for your reply.

Hi

I was recently told to take Flecanide only on an empty stomach so it is absorbed properly.

Other members here also report nausea if taken too close to meals.

Might help you ?

Yes, have felt queasy. Didn't know anything about when to take it in relationship to food.

Thank you for your reply. This forum is so helpful.

It came apparent for me as I was getting slowly worse episodes but taking before meals ( so I'd remember lol) meant only 1/4 being absorbed.

But normally it's very helpful
