Hi Esmi74. I have taken Flecainide for at least 15years, first as a pill in the pocket and then daily. So far so good.Only had 2 episodes in last 2 years. Best Wishes Jo. Ps just realised mine is PAF not just tachycardia.

I have been on Flecainide for around 25 years. I take it every day and also as a pill in the pocket.

I have PAF not tachycardia.

I still get AF regularly but have no idea what effect I would have if I were to stop taking it.

I had AF every 9 days or so for 12 hours. Was given Bisopralol for a time without effect but then flecainide was added and all AFs stopped. That was about 9 years ago. My cardiologist has been surprised how long it's been effective as AF usually progresses over time. I'm a 63 year old male.

Took flec for about 12 years which kept episodes of AF to about 3 a year until it suddenly stopped working. It had no noticeable side effects on me. It then stopped working and I went into persistent AF. I am about to have my 3rd ablation.

Took Flecainide for about 15 years . It never stopped my af (paf) episodes which varied from every other week to twice/three times a year.

When my paf became persistent a year ago, my consultant took me off flecainide as he said they were unlikely to work any longer. I must admit that I felt much better in myself after I had stopped taking them.

Flec did not really work for me plus I felt like a zombie while taking it. My heart beat certainly would slow down so it helped in that sense but I still got the heavy slower pounding which was very annoying. I opted for an ablation and that took care of the tachy.

Needlestone,

What dosage of Flec were you on that caused those symptoms?

I was prescribed 50 mg but I may have even cut them to 25 mg I can't remember now, it has been about a year since I took them.

6 months now, AF stopped cold, no problems with side effects from med. I'm lucky it worked for me, others have different experiences. What is heartening from the comments on this thread, and others, is if you tolerate the meds and it works at controlling AF, there doesn't seem to be any long term issues to continued use of Flecainide

I have plain old atrial tachycardia, termed "athlete's heart" by my EP, from stretching and subsequent scarring of my right atria. I feel every darned skipped beat, hard compensatory beat, and run of tachycardia so am what is termed "highly symptomatic". It drives me crazy even though I don't have increased stroke risk, etc.. I had one ablation that was unsuccessful. I have been on 100 mg of flecainide twice a day for a year now with virtually no side effects and few symptoms. I had a period of about 6 weeks last summer when it seemed to stop working and my EP advised another ablation, but I just hung in there and it started working again. I have tried at times to decrease the dose but things get jumpy again. I realize that I might eventually need to try another ablation but I am delaying that as long as I can. I'm not sure anyone truly knows about the long term side effects of flecainide, but at least I seem to tolerate it quite well.

I took 100mgs of flecainide twice a day for two and a half years and was totally without any wobbles of any kind for just over a year. Then I got the odd bit of AF occasionally over the next 18 months. My daily dose went up to 150mgs x 2 but there was no discernable benefit. After an ablation the flecainide was reduced and then I stopped taking it daily.

I still get the odd bit of AF and take 50 or 100mgs (and sometimes another 50mgs an hour later if needed) and it usually works effectively.

I acquired numb toes from somewhere a couple of years after I started taking flecainide, and later, when the dose was increased, the lack of sensation spread as far as my ankles but I feel that's far better than having a lot of AF.
