Just came from ER-Atrial tachycardia/SVT

Hi all,

I am so glad I have a support group friends. I feel I am not alone. Was at work 3 days back and all of a sudden my HR is going all crazy. Went to ER. It was 162. They gave me diltiazam iv drip , metoprolol oral. Finally HR is back in 75s but I have several palpitations and every time I tried to get up it goes up to 160.

I was discharged yesterday. I am on long acting diltiazam 120 mg once a day and PIP diltiazam 30 mg as needed if my HR goes up >120. Has anyone on diltiazam give me some input if it is been successful.

I have an appointment with my EP tomorrow for possible ablation. How long should I be off work after ablation. I am already been off this week due to Er visit.

Any input from fellow members who had ablation before- how long you stayed home before going to work. I am a veterinarian and my job is very hectic

Thanks in advance

If you go to the AF Association website there is a fact sheet on recovering from ablation. It is a very fluid situation and you may be well enough to return to full time work after a couple of weeks depending on whether you had GA or sedation but equally it can take much longer It is generally agreed that the heart takes from three to six months to recoverand heal from the procedure and it really isn't a great idea to upset it during that period by over doing things.

I had my last ablation (for atrial tachycardia) on 15th August and am not yet fully recoverd for example. I am ,however, retired and no longer 35.

Thanks Bob. Hopefully they schedule my ablation soon . I can’t take these Svt episodes everyday

I hope all goes well for you. I think sometimes waiting for a procedure is the hardest part.

I have been having hr increased and irregular for a few months. As I have heart valve problems and a lot of stress due to a sudden family bereavement, I waited a few weeks before seeing gp tomorrow I am having a 7 day monitor fitted to work out the cause.

Thank you woodbon . I know the waiting time is hard. I am glad we have fellow friends here who understand what we go thorough . Sometimes I feel like there are people who don’t understand what we go through. This is something I can’t control and I have to live with it

Good luck with your appointment. Keep us posted .🙏

Hi, I suffer from svt and my hr shoots up to about 150 for no reason. I’ll not go on about it but I was put on Bisoprolol and this stopped it. Not ideal because it made me more tired. My waiting list for an ablation was 4 months. I got a date after 3 months but this got postponed for a month. Basically, you aren’t likely to have an ablation very soon assuming you are in the uk and on the nhs.

If your meds don’t stop the high hr I would ask about trying Bisoprolol.

Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Thank you Fazerboy. I live in US. I saw my EP yesterday and he told me I have atrial flutter and it is better to do the ablation sooner as I am symptomatic now. I am on Diltiazam 90 mg twice daily which keeps my HR below 100 but still I can feel the flutter. My ablation is on 10/17. This is my 3rd ablation. So we will see

Thank you for the reply. I agree that waiting is hard and I've never been good at it! I have my Monitor now and was surprised that they want me to have it for 7 days, but as it is so small so far most of the time I forget it, I had imagined something huge and heavy that would clip onto a belt, but this is the size of a plug. My hope now is to find out whats going on now.

Ablation went well on 10/17. So far everything going well. Taking little easy. Palpitations occasionally but otherwise okay. I was told palpations are normal for the first few months. My EP told me to stop Diltiazam but on Eliquis for now.
