I'm a male, 74 yrs. I have Afib and didn't know it. It showed up while taking a blood

pressure test and EKG. Taking Xarelto 20 for a year but seem to have more joint and

back pain. I took Aleve and it worked great but Dr. said don't take together because

of bleeding. What can I take with Xarelto, Tylenol doesn't work.

If you have AF even if you were not taking an antgicoagulant you must not take any NSAIDs such as ibuprofen as they are known to cause AF. (NSAID=non steroidal anti inflamatory drugs).

Hi, I have osteoarthritis and don't take any painkillers and rely on taking 1mg daily of really good quality Glucosomine, by recommendation of my doctor, and Bowen technique and regular gentle exercise, myo-fascia release massage and adding anti-inflammatory substances such as root ginger, curcummin to my diet. I have very little pain.

Avoid all pain killers if you have AF apart from small, infrequent paracetamol, not just because of the bleed risk, they are the worst for AF. If you think the Xarelto is causing the pain you could ask your doctor for an alternative, some people do seem to have side effects such as joint pain as a result from some AC's.

Thankfully you are obviously asymptomatic, long may it remain so but if you become symptomatic - tired, breathless and unable to exercise - you will know your AF is progressing.

I'd be pleased to learn which brand of "good quality" Glucosomine your doctor recommended

Both Nature's Best and Higher Nature are known for being high quality. Solgar is excessively high quality and expensive - you only need this if you have lots of allergies.

My Doctor did not recommend any particular brand - I go to a herbalist who did. As it happens it happens at present I am using Nature's Aid but the best way of seeing which would suit you is to read the label very carefully - the front of the label may say 1000mg capsule but may not contain 1000mg of active ingredient so always check that.

What my doctor, a rheumatologist, did say was you need to take at least 1000mg per day and it takes approx 4-6 weeks to notice any difference. One of the big differences I have found is that my finger tendonds no longer 'trigger'.

In U.K. I have often been recommend Lambert's which is one of the few manufactured to pharmaceutical standards - I sometimes use that brand but I avoid the well known high street brands apart from Boots - who again manufacture to good standards

I get most of my supplements from Healthspan - I like that they make no wild claims for their products but do give a comprehensive breakdown of the active ingredients in each supplement. They are also available on the phone to advise. I had a large stock of gingko biloba that I could no longer take after my diagnosis of Afib and they sent me a prepaid label to send it back for a full refund.
