I agree Robert that you had some great, really helpful replies. I wish this forum had been around on my first diagnosis 23+ years ago. Bob D particularly has a wealth of knowledge and many others have much to contribute .

You do not have to be alone on this journey.

Robert, when I read your original post I was horrified that you had been discharged with no help or advice. I wondered how many more people would suffer such appalling neglect .

I do hope that you have booked to see your GP and arranged anticoagulation.

Yeah, I agree, Robert's treatment was appalling, absolutely appalling. A few years ago I posted on here my views on the National Health Service, namely ....... it is National, in geographic application only .... a service it is not. This concept of service varies all over the nation so patients get different health care depending I suspect on the CCG.

That said, in Jan 2010 I was living in Surrey at the time AF hit me and thanks to smart work by my GP and the local hospital A & E team I had been diagnosed and treatment started in around 9 hours from onset. I will always believe that such smart work has virtually stopped my AF progressing to anything more sinister than paroxysmal AF - after 6 and half years. It was in Surrey in the beginning that I was introduced to the Coaguchek INR monitoring device which enabled me to live a life free of going to the surgery for INR blood tests.

So in mid 2012 I moved to Cornwall .... NHS speaking it was a step into the dark ages. totally. Nobody would support me in carrying on with my Coaguchek device and for the first 3 years down here I had to go to surgery for INR tests. I even approached my CCG to get support. They claimed that they couldn't support me through the NHS. Then one day I sat at home and rang around all the GP's close to me and found one that supported Coaguchek. I phoned the Practice Manager got an appointment with a GP and had an interview with him and was then taken onto their 'books' So now life has the same freedoms as I had in Surrey.

As I say ..... National - yes ! Service .... definitely not !
